Feast--A work in progress (Painter Classic)

Okay, just so you know, there's going to be A LOT of blood. So, where should I put most of it?

I'm fond of it making drooley, drippy trails along the length and breadth of his torso, running along his arms, glistening, gooey. Defining the shape of the face.

Someone said something about incorporating a dark dark and a light light. Where would you put those to make this the most effective image it could be?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The others that frequent this board are much better at this than I am. Here is my shot at this.

Your color values in this are pretty close in the upper half. You have a lot of what I consider to be mid to light values. My eye really wants to find the lines around the figure and head to help me define the shapes. If the red is going to be the beginning of your blood, maybe you could try making it a darker value to offset the values around it.

After looking at this for a while, I would think that if there is going to be a considerable amount of blood on the other figures that the large face on the right would also have blood on it. My instinct would put it running along the jaw area, with a mouth like that, its the perfect shape for it.

I am a beginner at this stuff, myself. I hope that someone can come behind me and offer you some better ideas.

I've read stuff on color theory, but not studied it seriously enough, I guess. I've tried to add definition to the heart, but as I began to work more color in, I realized I was working toward a homogeneous value again, and decided to try something else. This might be a recurring theme for me.

As I've looked at the layout, I've discovered it has some problems, narrative wise. The heart should be higher and closer to the mouth so the blood can drip and drool and flow down and across the face. As it is, it can only drip directly downward. I'll probably end up cheating or throwing the whole thing out and start with another layout.

But there's no harm in seeing where this one goes...

Is there a purist out there who believes I should remain in watercolor throughout this thing? (I've had some moderate experience with watercolor only. Never really got the hang of acrylics (though never actually studied them). Dabbled in oil briefly.) Is it ethical to mix media in Painter in a way you never would in the real media?

(I suppose if keep opacity at 100%, it'll be like goauche, right?)
