Two New Dakota Studio Trays Arrived

I got my two new Dakota Studio Trays in UPS today. Pretty. I can finally get rid of the plastic Hobby Lobby storage trays I have been using. First chore is to sort by value and temperature per Maggie Price instructions.

I didn't know it from the photo on line, but your pastels lay on a window screen type base so your loose dust will fall through. It lands on a foil removable tray so you can take the tray out and either save or trash the accumulated dust. Pretty neat.

I saw that in the photo and wondered how that screen wears on the pastels. After you use it awhile please let us know what you think about it.

I will. The screen is not really window screen, that's just the best way I could describe it. It doesn't seem to be abrasive. I will post again later.

Re: Two New Dakota Studio Trays Arrived

I have two of these trays. They are great. I ended up cutting up pieces of plastic..may it is rubber liner. The sort you can buy in Walmart in a waffle weave. I also have it on my drafting table so things don't slide off. It allows the pastel dust to go through the liner and the wire onto the tray. I am not sure why I did this, perhaps fussing, however it provides a softer surface for my pastels.

I also got some foamcore and cut out a lid to cover the top of each tray. A nice insert over the top of each tray which still allow you to stack them. It protects the pastels when not in use. I can also put books and other things on the top of the trays without damaging the pastels. The trays are a good deal. Lots of room to sort your pastels and add more I am sure you will love your trays!
