IMAGES HERE: WDE, July 6th >>>>>
Welocme to this week's WDE.
I will be posting 16 images and a challenge.
Please wait until all are uploaded before commenting - thank you.
You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium.
For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.
Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added.
NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work for the current WDE into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.
You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday).
After posting your contribution, please view others’ entries and comment and encourage when you can. Unless requested, please refrain from critiquing.

In the UK and Commonwealth we celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee so I watched the River Pageant for over 3 hours and took photos from the TV - they're not the best quality but sufficient to savour the flavour!
These singers from the London colleges of Music deserved medals - they suffered from hypothermia for their art and the Queen!
 .. Larger size
Thames Fire/rescue boats gave a great display and added to the wetness!
 .... Larger size
The rest of the images should be a better quality!

Pretty places -
Victoria Arcade, Harrogate, UK - lovely little shops
 ... Larger size
Harlow Carr Gardens, Harrogate
 .. Larger size
A famous landmark, a couple of miles from us -

More images of Anthony Gormley's Angel of the North are in the RIL - it's 175 metres wide and 65 metres high.
Or fun places -
Aren't fairgrounds sad without people?
 .. Larger size
A bit of transportaion! Farm tractor.

Some florals:
A gorgeous rhodo

Hydrangea blooming in our back garden -

My white orchid-

This old, gnarled tree found in May -

(Sorry, no better size in the RIL).
And the challenge -
This was a greasy pan left overnight with soap and water - lovely lacy bubbles resulted!

If you wish to accept the challenge, it is to use this image above for some counterchange work - and if you have never done or seen that before, here's a quick example of it's most basic form.
It's usually done in 2 colours but if you're adventurous you can try working it with more!
BUT - if that image is too complex and you still would like to try counterchange, please choose any of the above!
OK, that's it - hope you can find something to interest or inspire you!
Thanks for joining me - now go create and have FUN!

I just logged on quickly before going to clean and tidy my "studio" and this looks like much more fun. I have to give that counterchange a try but I might leave it till tonight. Thanks for hosting and the photos are wonderful

Some interesting references to choose from Maureen... thanks. Just so you know though...2 of your 'larger size' links are not working properly... the Victoria Arcade link takes you to the fire rescue boat scene and the fairground scene isn't hyperlinked at all.

Rag and Bone man? I've got no idea what that means AT ALL....lol
Hope to join in - I've got an out of town wedding so it might not happen!

Great selection. Your hydrangeas are crazy beautiful! All that moisture, ours never looked like that back home. Great challenge. Thanks for hosting Maureen!

Re: IMAGES HERE: WDE, July 6th >>>>>
Thanks Peeps
Sorry about the links - I had checked all the ones linked to the RIL and thery were OK - obviously a rabbit away with the Arcade one though! :rolleues: ........ the RIL just would not accept the Fairground one - until this morning ....... been trying for the past 10 days .. there now though
I'm grateful for anyone spotting things, so please tell me - SHOUT
Valri - if you pop back ....... didn't realise Rag and Bone men were just UK 'specialities'!!! ........ from my own youth, they used to come round villages (and towns) to collect old items - and pay you for them! Took furniture, old 'rags' etc - don't know what the 'bones' might have been!
Found this Wikipedia explanation of Rag and Bone men - early Recycling

Hmmm, very interesting subjects here Maureen. So nice to see healthy hydrangeas! I've not heard of counterchange.

Re: IMAGES HERE: WDE, July 6th >>>>>
Thanks for refs Maureen - i have ones virtually the same - I also took photos off the telly of the jubilee pageant - i have an almost identical one of the 'drowned rats' from the music school.
I will see what i can do to join in. I'm on holiday in Pembrokeshire SW Wales at the moment in a tent in the rain. The 'month of rain in 36 hours' line just misses us - its more mid and north Wales. I guess in the NE you have it bad. I've heard the Midlands where i live is copping it bad,.
Sunshine cloud and 'occasional showers' we have forecast here.
i only have 2 hours at a time on my laptop and no printer so i'll see what i can do - if i'm working from monitor in reality the 2 hours is more like 90 mins,
Having a 'rest day' today after a busy week and a lot of driving. Might get paints out soon.
i did a plein air of the river Teifi, which Iposted on my FB using my phone, yesterday. Will see what i can do,....
have fun all....

Okay, now I know what it is, just never called it counterchange; Tony Couch introduced us to the value changes years ago in his workshops. Here is a link from Artist's Network:

Re: IMAGES HERE: WDE, July 6th >>>>>
Thanks for the link Kay - he actually does call it counterchange
I always used it when teaching - it can be used at so many levels and for so many ideas - made great abstracts
Lin - it's really OK if you're too busy having a nice time - and I'm glad you're getting some reasonable weather - it's horrendous again here - and very dark!
Beth - this should fit into Bethville very well ...... if you can find the time
