Sorry so late! I'm painting for a couple of shows and falling behind. These were drawn by my daughter and painted by me - I found the little fairy in her sketchbook and painted it in food colouring for her 21st cake as a surprise. Gail

Gail, these are adorable. The clouds are so nicely done and the girl has beautiful hair and eyes. Most of all, the cake! Wow, that's a fabulous paint job. Did you use a paint brush for food coloring for the butterfly fairy? How do you not disturb the frosting? So unique!!

Thanks, Sandra! For the cake I cut a plaque (and the scroll) from fondant icing and worked on them when they had hardened a bit. Yes, I used a couple of paint brushes to paint the design, allowing colours to dry before painting the adjacent areas as they bleed when wet. If the plaques are allowed to harden well they're easy to lift onto a cake and attach with some frosting. Some cake shops sell fondant plaques and shapes ready-made, but of course it's a lot less expensive to make your own. Gail
