Once Upon a Time/July-Rene Bull 1875-1942

Our illustrator for July 2012 is Rene Bullborn in Dublin 1875, died in 1942.

He was an illustrator of childrens books and a cartoonist. He also did many costume designs for The Ballet Russe.

Re: Once Upon a Time/July-Rene Bull 1875-1942

Mr Bull seemed to work in a lot different styles He shared credit with another artist for Uncle Remus, but the pen and ink drawings are his.
I also was interested In his ballet costumes. So many artists did stage sets and costumes it might be fun to do a
Thread on this some time.

Thank you, Janet, for the challenge.

I did a couple here on Pentalic 70 sketchbook 5.5 x 8 inch with Uniball black pen and Daniel Smith watercolor.

Another interesting illustrator. I love the movement in prince Igor image.

Hi Sandra, you are off to a quick and brilliant start. Colours good and moody in the first one; and I love your pen work in the second.

Re: Once Upon a Time/July-Rene Bull 1875-1942

Thank you, ladies.

The background is some spilled Dr. Ph Bombay India Ink teal color that I slathered over my Academie Heavyweight 80 lb sketchbook 8.5 x 11 inch. This is 1/4 of the page.

Japanese bruah pen which is drying up - black and grey. I thought about it fading and will have to redo this if I want to put it on the wall.

Uniball white gel pen.

This brush pen is the felt tip one and I wished for the figure, I used the Calligraphy brush pen instead because I already have an outline. For sketching, brushpen is better because you could control the line, but for inking, Calligraphy brush pen is better.

I've redesigned Bull's work. I don't fancy women without arms.
