Perhaps both-- But not your "usual" terror type of any sort... A Ph.D candidate in University of Colorado till recently dropping out. Very disturbing. Had to have taken weeks to assemble all the arms and the booby trapped apartment (evening here & the authorities still haven't finished securing that scene, the bomb stuff so numerous). So he methodically planned it- WHY? Yes evil. Perhaps, as he was captured alive, "experts" will be able to learn something about this abberant behavior, all too often repeated in our era worldwide, such as you mentioned Anders Brevik.

Lin, what great pictures.

Robert, cool kitty story. . . glad Ari is back to his preferred food. Sounds like you have hit on just the right food for him, which can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. One of my dogs has a sensitive tummy so I had to find just the right food that didn't make her loose but yet was a good quality. Finally hit on Acana, which is made in Canada, and my guys really do well on it. The other still get raw for one meal a day but not my sensitive girl as she can't handle that. Hope to see you back on the boards soon, Robert.

Take care all.

Re: The Oil Gusher July 2012

After all the momentous happenings, I almost feel I shouldn't bring up my trivia but perhaps it's time to get back to normal.

My last Saturday's art fair, while nothing to brag about, was OK. I didn't sell any originals but sold six giclee prints. I had four "I'LL BE BACK"s. I'm well aware that my experience with the "I'LL BE BACK"s is about one in twenty actually comes back and completes the transaction. One gentleman was so enthuastic about one of my original oil pastels, that he convinced me to put the painting aside while he went home to get his checkbook. Of course he never came back, and one other person noticed the painting that I had set aside and loved it. Except for the "I'LL BE BACK", I may have sold an original which would have made it a good show. None of the other "I'LL BE BACK"s actually came back either. I broke my cardinal rule of setting a time limit on how long I'll hold back a painting. HAL REMEMBER YOUR RULE....

Next Saturday, I have another art fair... hope springs eternal.

One grade school aged girl walked into my display as stopped dead and said "WOW!!!" These are the moments I treasure at the art fairs.

Also a mother and her young son, in a stroller, stopped by and insisted that he wanted out of the stroller. He went from one Lighthouse painting to the next lighthouse painting insisting that his mother buy it. She wound up dragging him away and never did buy one of my lighthouses.

Re: The Oil Gusher July 2012

Arrived home today after a wonderful week in ME. There were very bad storms here the day we left and our neighbor said that at least 3 homes in our town were hit by lightning. A lot of rain which the garden was very thankful for.
Terrible tragedy in Colorado, Candace...prayers for all those families.
Glad your art fair was not a bust, Hal and let's hope next week is even better.
Thanks for all the vacation pics, Lin and I like your painting.
More later..

Pat

We dont have luxuries like porta-potties we have to get dressed put on our coats grab torch and umbrella and hike to the toilet block - which is why I was complaining about how far back he'd pitched the tent - further to go and more swamp to traverse....

Thanks, Which painting my dear?

Well Dave's gone to Essex to be with his family and for the funeral on Weds. i couldn't go, can't do public transport and wouldn't be able to drive especially as som much of London, particularly the east is cordoned off... If I got there I wouldn't be able to get back as they closing so many of the roads.

Andy is here but not so good as a carer as Dave but he does his best. I miss him so much.

Been in the garden today, finsihed a pastel for the WDE. Been pretty tired and trying to adjust to the change in air.

Glad you like the photos - have some more for resizing.

My setup at the last artfair.

and my favorite visitor to my art fair display last weekend. OK my actual favorite visitors were the ones who purchased something. However, he's a close second.

What a nice booth display, Hal. You are very prolific to have all those artworks to display. Maverick is a cutie

My last day of work at my job of 24 years was on June 30... its been this many days before it has suddenly struck me that I actually do not ever have to go back. That is weird, I know

Rainy, it's not that I create that much, I just don't sell enough!!

I highly recommend retirement. Enjoy yourself and paint, paint, paint.

That is a great set up, Hal. Very neat and compact. Is it hard to set up the tents?
Congrats, Rainy and have fun in your retirement. I love it!

Re: The Oil Gusher July 2012

Pat the tent is called an "Easy Up" of which there are a number of versions.

I put it up and take it down myself and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to set up the whole display as shown in the photo. Take down requires about the same amount of time.

Taking down is the worst part. Physically, taking down is easier but you are tired and the energy level is low at the end of the day, especially if sales weren't very good.

Rainy, I am inspired... job of 24 years? Gee from your "online personality" I thought you were maybe 24 years old!! You go girl! Keep up the great art & enjoy the retirement!!

Hal, what an attractive setup you have. I would feel very comfortable looking at your works. Sometimes the booths are a bit claustrophobic looking and I don't step inside. Silly of me perhaps, but in a crowd of strangers that's just how I feel sometimes.

Nice doggy visitor. Hope you never have... a tinkler....

Candace, no tinklers as yet.

I did have a priceless moment at the show: a grade school level girl walked into the shade of my canopy, stopped dead and said "WOW!!"

One of those priceless moments.

Re: The Oil Gusher July 2012

Wow, like Pat said the other day. Where is everyone??

Had another Gus adventure this morning. On Gus's morning walk, we met "Gunner" in the traffic circle again this morning. Gunner is the yellow Lab puppy who jumped through my driver side window, last week, to get to Gus.

Gunner was out on his own again and as Gus and I walked the block home Gunner came with us. Gunner is such a hyper puppy that Gus just seems to be befuddled my him. I was curious to see how far he would follow us, so I walked on home. When I got home, Gunner insisted on being the first one inside. He ran at hyper speed through out his exploration of my hourse. I knew he would follow Gus so we went back outside and with Gunner following Gus. We walked back to his house and met his owner looking for him at the traffic circle.

Those people are going to lose that beautiful puppy.
