Re: Dream Tiger w.i.p.

then......

top pic- go back over with burnt umber hairs and lots of little black random hairs.. the black random hairs won't show up too black because of all the other color you have down. Slice any cheesy looking box shapes into hair shapes with your sharp black. Also, any spaces left in the black tufts I hit with the burnt umber, for a hopefully slight highlight look in black tufts...

lower pic, break out the Gelly Roll 08 white pen from Japan... and draw little hairs over lapping into the black area in the direction that the hairs are growing...

Re: Dream Tiger w.i.p.

Finally I very gently at first put a careful thin layer of clay orange over my hairs protruding into the black tufts (from the bottom of the tufts, sometimes the sides too) , and after I got that thin layer down, I could push harder and color them darker...

Used the dark colors again to slice any boxy areas I saw into hair shapes, touched up the tuft ends going into the orange (at top of black tufts) again with sharp black if they didn't look real enough...

broke out gel pen and any hairs going into the black tufts that seemed to spring from nowhere... I extended the lines down a bit to make them look like they were actually coming out of the orange hair and recolored those, went around with my starbust yellow and colored in any too white looking little areas left and I think I'm pretty happy with this.

This is gonna' take forever I can tell

Maybe I can find a way to cheat a bit
But I doubt it....

Maybe a little stadium rock will help me keep motivated...

I intend to roll on through the face hair in this fashion.... same way I showed you with this section... just some hairs will be going in different directions, some hairs might be longer or shorter based on where they are on the face...

Same plan as I used here on another tiger, page 6 about half way down...just these hairs are shown a bit farther away so I made them shorter... http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show...1155842&page=6

Thanks for your opinion, glad it looks ok, THANKS

I never found that Yellow Ochra I was lookin' for... so I guess you can just delete that from the color recipe I posted. Guess I didn't really need it.

Re: Dream Tiger w.i.p.

now moving into the much shorter hairs over the nose... that's the burnt umber going over the clay orange... looks kinda red, huh? Next layer will be the expresso....

OOPS. I meant Burnt Ochra, not umber... the one I showed you on the plate
I am still making little slanty rows, as I go along, instead of just making them random.. I think there is a pattern to hair that you can see, especially when it's pretty close up

Re: Dream Tiger w.i.p.

Thanks for taking a look Smudged Blue

Now here it is with the 1. Clay orange, 2. Burnt Ochra and 3. expresso on, then next mushed down with the Starburst Yellow...
(pics of pencils posted above)

(that last expresso layer doesn't seem to show up much in my pics but it does in reality)

not a very good mushing job that I could see when I took it outside...

I mapped out the rest of where the orange-ish face hair will go with just the clay orange, just to keep track of where it's going to be...

Next will go the black random hairs..

Re: Dream Tiger w.i.p.

Thank you She She, C. Creativity and Kate for stopping in and taking a look and your encouraging comments...

Hit a big snag and thought I was going to have to scrap, but it may be ok... Before I do any more darkening (more little tiny black lines) or highlighting on this part of the nose, I'm going to put some of the side areas in, which contain a good deal of shading, then I can look at that and see what needs to be touched up on this nose section.... Hopefully

I still see some white flecks left over thanks to flaw magnifier... I might have to go outside and get those cause I just cant see them inside.

Before I forget, After the last posted step, I made little hairs all about in Burnt Ochra before starting to put in the little black hairs...
