Re: Roll Call !
Hello! I'm a 3rd year student @ the University of Michigan in Flint. I'm a double major in studio art (painting) and english (writing). I work primarily in oils and am working on a series about my cat stealing clothing... Check out my website!

Re: Roll Call !
This is my first post to the forum I am an aging and indecisive art student, I graduated in 96’, its never to late right. I was attending an on line art course and did not feel I was moving into a progressive or growing stage. I’m currently looking toward RISD and Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design both have left a visual lasting impression on me. Living in Arizona will have me relocate to the other end of the US. I have yet to complete, what I consider, a confident portfolio and visit schools. I’m stuck and growing tired. I continue to have the desire to do this I’m a self-diagnosed tired. I’m hoping I wake up one day buy a one-way ticket and and well who knows. The student forum does give me a bit of push. Oh and I want to study painting and minor in illustration.
Wake up wake up wake up ok sleep now…

Welcome! (I'm new too!)
It is never, ever too late. Look at Van Gogh, he was late in starting his art studies although he wasn't considered "great" at the time, he is one of the world's most celebrated artists.
I too graduated High School in '96 and (due to restrictions placed on me by family members) was unable to take any art classes until I was out on my own. So, we're not art proteges at the age of 16... we've got plenty of time to become great.
I guess I should introduce myself huh?
I am Mimsy (though that isn't my real name... I just like it as it references one of my obsessions: Lewis Carroll)
I am a 26 year old mother, professional, wife, and student. *phew* I'm busy... but I'm slowly working on obtaining my art degree by attending night courses. I'm debating on whether I should go to a CSU to save money... or go to Cal Arts to save commuting time. :P
I was forbidden to persue art during High School as "the powers that be" at that time in my life, felt that I would ruin my life. It was much more sensible to become a business person, well... I gave up my dreams and made some bad choices. Although my decisions were not the wisest they did lead me on my path to self discovery and have enabled me to once again persue my dreams. (*Ultimate Dream* = Donating my art to auction for charity)
Now I'm back in school and trying really hard to piece together my self-confidence and quiet all the nay-sayers by doing what they thought was not possible.

I'm here!
Hi, I am an emerging designer and artist. I am currently at Maryland College of Art and Design, working on my AFA in Graphic Design. I already have a Bachelors degree in liberal arts, and I am hoping to transfer to one of the schools in New York City to get my BFA in GD, and maybe relocate there too. Nice to meet you all.
I am glad I found this forum, where I am among creative people like me and not some anonymous weirdos.

Welcome, Mimsy. A word of warning: be careful about having an 'ultimate dream', as it will (mostly likely) come true, leaving you without further goals.
Always leave room for another dream, and another after that, and...

Re: Roll Call !
Ok, so I ought to introduce myself too, instead of just lurking!!
My name is Anthea, I'm 27 and currently a housewife that is trying to study Interior Design by correspondence. My only problem is that I seem to be getting VERY distracted by all sorts of things..... including Art. I am considering getting off my rear end and attending college in September. My local college does a BA in Fine Art (3 years) and also an HNC Fine Art (1 year). I haven't quite decided which one I'm going for, but have applied for both. I'm kinda hoping that my decision will be made for me by only being accepted to one!!!
Oh, and I live in the Scottish Highlands.... although I was born and raised in South Africa. I studied Music at High School and totally missed out on Art. This was because I was Talented at Music and heavens forbid that I could possibly be interested in anything else!!! When I asked to drop music in favour of Art the "powers that be" told me very firmly that I was never going to be allowed to do that. So now, I'm finally getting to do what I wanted!!!! Although I'm rather nervous about that too.....
Ok enough chatter, back to the real world.
Anthea
PS I will be continuing my Interior Design studies concurrently with the art studies!!!! I must be crazy!

Re: Roll Call !
My name's Allison... I'll be a freshman at RISD in September. Right now I'm an illustration major, but that doesn't really mean anything until next year.

Re: Roll Call !
I'll be the second Allison in a row! Cept I'm Allison D. *waves to Allison C.*
I'm not going to a fancy art school or anything, but I am majoring in Studio Art (2d) at Louisiana Tech. Heaven's knows I wanted to go to a fancy art school But I'd rather get paid 870 dollars a quarter than have to pay 10000 a year...
So far I've got a pretty good Mural business going. 4 jobs so far and more to come! Hopefully it will help me pay for everything I need! (Supplies and books!! Ahh!)

I'm 38, and studied Commercial Art at a juniour college 15 years ago, 'cause I didn't know whether to pursue art or music, and ended up studying art 'by default', 'cause I had to declare a major, and I was already taking commercial art classes.
Do you still pursue your music, even as a hobby?
I'm rebuilding my recording studio, and hope to sell my drum set later this month, to purchase a PA system, so I can start lining up some small gigs this fall, performing electronic dance music, for extra money.
I've decided that I'm not going to choose between visual art and music; I'm going to do both. Study visual art in college during the day, and work on music at least a couple evenings and on the weekends!
Best wishes to you for finding your way through school, whatever you decide to do,
K

Re: Roll Call !
Hey there
Thanks for your reply Keith. Just to let you know.... I still do Music as well, but only as a hobby and occasionally in our church. Although I do enjoy it, I've had too many years of forced enjoyment..... so I only play when I get in the mood to do so.....
However, that is becoming more frequent! Perhaps oneday I'll get back into it properly, but right now I'm enjoying my art!!
Anthea
