Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

Done with Copic Markers and coloured pencils. I first put down the colour with the markers, and then in the end went over some spots with coloured pencils (for example on the wood and on the foreground). This was the first time I did this.
Comments and critique are welcome!

Re: Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

The pencil on top of the marker seems to work well for the shading. Nice sketch!

Re: Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

Thank you, Joan!
One of my goals for June is to do more figure drawing, so here's a quick sketch:

I know that there are severe flaws regarding the measurement - hands too small, torso too long and so on. So I will keep practising...

Nice the colored pencil worked over the markers. Keep practicing, your figures will get better and better.

Re: Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

great colour on the one with the markers.
You have the idea of the foreshortening on the 2nd figure and he is in balance looking to thorw a kick or punch right at the viewer.

Re: Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

Thank you, Debby, RainySea, Elain and Joan!
Here's the coloured version of the fighting man:

It's only an experimental study. Here I first used very light brown and yellowish markers for the foreground and the area around the upper body of the man. Then I used my colour and my watercolour pencils (dry) to get some shading in, and having done that I finished with going over this with a colourless blender marker.
Comments and critique are welcomed as always!

I like the first sketch, but the colour version is much more dynamic and really makes him seem to move. Very cool.

Re: Ulla's Virtual Art Journal June 2012

The secret to figures is to practice, practice, practice - especially on proportions. I've put a lot of time in on figures, and still have a long way to go. Good idea to do the shading and modeling with colored pencil on top of the markers - I've got to steal that idea.

The color adds a lot to the drawing.

Nice work with the biro! I enjoy using pens - often fountain pens, but I always take a selection of ballpoints with me as well.
