Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Hi Debby, good to be back. I didn't forget you all, just in a whirlwind here lately. I haven't been around enough to say, except that today I have had WC pulled up most of the afternoon and no problems. I sometimes have fits with Photobucket if I let my cursor slip over their ads. I have learned to stay away from the ads. Wonder if WC has picked up some adware or whatever they call it?

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Hi gang. Lots of running about. Good to see Bonnie. Nice to have a visit with your family. When are you off to Knoxville to see the latest?

Summer is here with a vengance so I'm trying to not be out and about when it's really hot. Sat on the couch in front of the fan and stitched through most of the hot part of the afternoon, then the dog had to go out! So much for cool comfort.

Tomorrow my big class adventure begins. I'm taking along some stitching to play with in the evenings if I still have energy. There is a very lovely pool at my hotel so I'm sure I'll be cooling off in it nightly, maybe the chlorine will help rinse the rest of the red out of my hair.

No virus problems, but I have a mac.

Off to play with my threads and toss some stuff into a bag.

If I don't make it back on this week have a good week all.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

So Bonnie, don't be a stranger.

Margo, have a delightful time with your class and keep cool.

Don't know what the problem is. It's only WC and while my anti-virus keeps saying a threat has been detected on nearly (but not all) pages I visit on WC, when I scan, my computer is clean. Anyway, got the chocolate caramels packaged. DH helped my smoke up some whiskey salt. Got that packaged. But, now am committed to making whiskey salt caramels. Made cinnamon lollies this morning. Finally! I got a decent batch. No burning, no sticking in the molds. that's the last of the problems making lollies.

My brother and SIL came by with the nephews yesterday and the day before. She fell in love with the little dolls, dragons and ponies I made last year. She seems to think she can market them where they live in California. I dunno. She's been having her own set of health problems and I would hate to impose upon her. I think I'll have a word with my brother and see what his take on it is when she's not around.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Hi everyone. My anti-virus software would not even let me get to this site. It wouldn't even let the page come up. So what I would do is just try it and finally it is working again.

What have I been doing all weekend. Sewing of course. Got to get all my customer doll dresses, hats and pinafores made. The one customer dresses are for 29, 34 and 40 inch dolls so I had to start with a toddler size pattern and then adjust for the size of the doll. Lots of differences in dolls and children. Lucky she only wanted simple peasant dresses and so once I got the measurement right they were easy to make.

Still haven't finished the mink and wool coat. Having problems with the hand sewing part. The rest of the coat is done and the hat and boots are finished. I have picked up an order for another fur coat but with a different type of fur and hopefully that will go smoother. Still have one more customer to do a dress for and then I really have to get some of my "Emma" dolls done plus make up an "Evan" doll which I haven't done before. Need to come up with a hat design. The pants and shirt I have done before.

Margo hope your class goes well.

Debby, glad your candy and other stuff is going well and you will be all set for your show.

Back to sewing........

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Ah ha! The techies here found the bit of coding that was causing the problem with Avast. All is well now.

Eva, sounds like you were really productive. Is Evan going to be Emma's twin?

And yet, more candy is being made. I'm really feeling the pressure now. I wanted to start this the first week of June. But, between being at mom's due to the bathroom renovations and then burning sugar for a week... At the grocery store today, DH asked if I was going to make the smoked salt caramels. I've already gone from "I'm only going to make 3 flavors of caramels, milk, chocolate and salt." to "Ok, now I'm making a fourth flavor, whiskey salt and a second batch of milk caramels since my nephew bought several bags." Now he's asking if I'll make another batch in yet another flavor. *sigh* Only if I truly have time. I still have 5 flavors of lollies to make. Went and got my hair cut today. Lopped off about 8 inches. It's still long, just not past my waist anymore. It feels weird.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Debby, that is a lot of hair. I have always wished I could have long hair but it never grew longer than shoulder length. It is almost fine and thin so even that long really didn't look good. Now I wear it very short. Right now it is time for a haircut for me.

Glad that WC found where the glich was and fixed it. Was getting to wonder if I would ever be able to get back on here.

I spent today getting all 4 dresses, hats and pinafores finished up and ironed and ready to pack. Need to get a box as I am out of boxes but am going to walmart tomorrow and will restock my boxes. Should have done it last week but I didn't. The lady also got some of the other things off my website so will pack it all up later tomorrow and hopefully get it out Friday. Still haven't hand sewn the mink and wool coat for the other customer but I did get some seam binding on it so that it hopefully the mink won't tear when I am hand sewing. I did have one tear in the bottom row of fur but I fixed that so now it just needs to be finished. She wants a doll I put up for sale on facebook too so looks like another box will be needed for all that too.

And Debby, yes, Evan is a twin to the Emma doll. I have two people asking for a boy of that doll. Still need to get a hat designed and don't know when I have time to get those dolls made up. Oh well, it will get done sometime in the next couple of months.

Well tomorrow is a big day of running errands and stopping at the doctor's office for John BP check and see if he meds have come in. Fingers crossed that they did.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Sigrun, your silk pieces are always so beautiful.

I would say you are now "BIG TIME" with an agent and all. Congrats!

Today was running errands most of the morning and then made a Chatty Cathy dress and panties this afternoon. Have stuff that has to be packed up now as we did get boxes this morning. Won't take long just needs to be done. Then I sold a doll yesterday so have to get it packed up too. Post office run in the morning plus stop at doctor's office for some of John's meds.

Forgot to take my doll this morning down to a friend to have it restrung. It is the composition doll I got last week and she will be working at the store tomorrow so will take the doll tomorrow and then get some good glue to close the side seam up. Then I will make the poor naked baby some clothes.

It is dinner time so guess I better go see what we want to eat tonight.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Eva, hope you can figure out a little hat for Evan. Super great you are selling stuff online as well as your doll clothing commissions.

Sigrun, happy you stopped by. So fun to see you are working in silk again. Thought maybe you gave it up for rugs.

More candy today. I was bagging the salt caramels when the phone rang. Mom was coming up to town. Her DMV renewal was lost in the mail somewhere and she wanted to get her car squared away. So she decided to hang out and help me make the next batch of caramels. That went fine and I sent her home with a sample. Got cherry honey lollies made and wrapped up. Now to get some dinner. Don't know if I've got the energy to make another batch of lollies tonight or not...

Hi all
Glad you are doing the caramels and the lollies again Debby
Eva I am looking forward to see the mink coat you are making for the lady

The midnight sun at the solstice last week was really, really good.... my camera was out of battery so.....

Here is an experiment with the oil stick on silk..... a spear head..

There is a runic text on if (do not know if can see it) I just could no resist writing it on the spear head " To Odin" or in Icelandic "Til Ođins".

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Sigrun, too bad about the camera batteries. Would love to have seen some of that celebration. Looks like the oil sticks worked. I saw the runes. Thanks for translating.

So, this morning after I finished my shower, the water in the shower wouldn't turn off. Good thing I was home alone. I had some choice words to say. Got ahold of DH. He says, call the plumber. *sigh* The last time I called the plumber, it was 4 days before he showed up and then only because I called and complained. So, I asked for a projected time of arrival. I think my rant the last time worked. He showed up within an hour. He went back to the shop to get a valve, but came right back and fixed it. That's twice we've had to replace that valve since we installed the new shower. I have a feeling I picked the wrong brand.

Was afraid with the 4th of July coming up that perhaps I'd have to shut off the water until after the holiday. Makes it real difficult to make candy with no water. But, all is well now. I got orange lollies made this morning. I cut and wrapped the whiskey salt caramels. This afternoon, I'll be making lemon lollies and wrapping the orange lollies. I think, barring any other crisis, I'll be able to make all the candy I planned.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Sorry about the shower valves. Good that the plumber came out quickly and that is got fixed right away. We need work on the showers in both bathrooms. Only use the one and the other ones I use for storage. It is a tiny stall and it feels like a tight box when you are in it so we don't use that one but the one in the other bathroom which is in the tub.

Looks like you are going to be already for your show. Good for you to get it done.

I had one of those days when I should have stayed out of the sewing room. Enough said on the subject

Then I super glued my doll and got glue on my fingers and of course some of it is still there. At least I didn't glue the fingers together....but I did get the doll fixed.

Tomorrow better be better...that is all I can say.

Re: Stitch In Time June 2012

Hi you busy bees. Lovely silks Sigrun, congrats on the agent.

My first week of class was awesome! I learned so much, so very glad the man decided to gift me with it. Tony is the best. I'm home for the weekend and then back for another week of serious intensity. I only managed to stitch one or two rows of stitches on a purse strap. 3 hours of instruction and demos in the morning and then 3 hours of intense drawing from the model in the afternoon, with help all along from Tony or one of his two super assistants=exhaustion at night.

So maybe I'll accomplish something over the weekend...if the cat will let me out of her sight!

Have any of you ever heard of ND embroidery thread from Mexico? If so is it colorfast? Got quite a bit of it in a mixed lot from Ebay, I guess if no one knows I should soak a skein and lay it on white fabric to see if it bleeds. I suppose that should do the trick. If it does I guess I'll give it to some kids group to make friendship bracelets out of.

Have a good weekend all.

Eva, finger nail polish remover dissolves super glue. Sorry about your day. Tomorrow will be better. *hugs*

Gee, Sigrun, thanks for the offer. I still haven't finished this bathroom.

Margo, glad your class was so excellent. Sounds like you are having fun and learning a lot.

Today, I finished wrapping all the candy that wasn't wrapped yet. Then I did up herb mixes I was low on. I could, but don't have to, make any more candy for the show. I'm thinking that I should take tomorrow off, maybe do something fiber. Monday I have to go over the tent, tables and such to make sure that's all in order. Tuesday will be getting DH ready for his work week since I'll be spending all of Wednesday at the show. Yeah, tomorrow I'm off with my feet up.
