My cat, Pusskiss

I finally worked up the courage to do this, but I waited 'till I went to a class because I knew I was going to need advice about all those colours, especially in the shadows. The photo is a bit cropped. It's also not quite finished yet, so I'll post another photo of the whole painting when it is.

This is the ref pic, also cropped

By the way, I do like the new uploader window. It's much easier to use.

Very nice, Chelle. I rather like the colors. And of course love cats!
Nice work on Muttly, as well.

What a charming portrait, Chelle! The colors are so soft and you've handled the light beautifully. Good on ya!

Very soft. Yes, I do agree, it looks like a very old painting done by Renoir. Wonderful work Chelle!

Oh wow, thank you so much everyone! Seeing as I just love Renoir's work, I am soooooo complimented! I've not had a chance to do any more to it (been busy at work) but I did get a wider shot. I intend to finish it this week-end. I'm not going to tough the face, just finish off his back and his front leg as well as tidy up the edges of the background.
Bob and I are leaning so much from our teacher, Karol Oakely who is a fabulous artist as well as a good teacher.
Dana, as Karol said to me, every subjuct is just shapes, just like any other subject. I'm sure you could do a lovely cat.

Ooops. Forgot to upload the wider shot. By the way, that last post should read "I'm not going to touch the face"

Chelle -- When I opened this thread I said "Oh, very nice", and out loud actually. Not too many pictures evoke this response. I like the drawing, the impressionistic style and especially the lost edges on the side of his face and neck. As Rose Queen said, the handling of light is very well done. Bravo!
I am looking forward to seeing this finished. BTW, is it pastel? and how large?

I also just wanted to say that I think this is beautiful. Reminds me of the impressionists sort of style. Lovely.
