Flowers and frames

Please tell me what you think of the composition of this photo.

I took a photo of the flowers last week in bright sunlight so they looked closer to the ivy. But I thought the picture needed something more so I added the frames. I may wait 'til I get better light and take another photo.

Thanks,
Naomi

Re: Flowers and frames

As a composition, it's rather confusing to the viewer. To me is seems that the square frame set vertically on one of its corners is the centre of attraction, yet it seems you consider the picture to be about the flowers.

I suggest you take away the frames (both the square and the elliptical one), and take a good close up of the flowers (are they aquilegia?) when it's sunny.

Re: Flowers and frames

Or place a garden feature in that spot. Wall fountain, plaque, birdhouse ... framed by the greens.

Re: Flowers and frames

OK, this picture is closer, without the frames and in brighter light. You don;t think the board fence looks too empty?

Re: Flowers and frames

I do think it needs something but the frames seem out of context. Didn't they used to do cutouts in fences? Peepholes, I guess. A moon comes to mind.

I like the way the foliage and flowers are but I think the lines of fence wouldn't be fighting with them for attention if the lines were straight.
