Re: Scavenger Hunt #269 May 21 - May 29

Ive just realised I've already done some plein air sketches which will fit this list.
These were from our Art Group's sketch out day to Waipapa Point.
Waipapa Point is at the bottom of Southland and if this looks cold and rugged, that's because it is. A wonderful wild place.

! - Pacific - this is where the Pacific Ocean meets the Great Southern Ocean.
2. - Panoramic - plenty of panoramic views here
3. - Panic - the beach was full of very large, male Sealions who were staking out their territory for when the females arrive. This one would only take so much sketching and then reared up to fight us!.. that's when you panic and run, as you are invading their territory! These blokes don't muck about, and mean business!
4. substitute - Buoy washed up from a fishing boat, and found on the beach
5. substiute for modern communication device - an older device - the Waipapa Point Lighthouse, built in 1870 because of all the disasterous sinking of ships off the Point.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #269 May 21 - May 29

Forgot to add in my Sketchbook - 9in x 12in - watercolor

The male Sealion was being too aggressive to spend a lot of time sketching him. Once they rear up to attack you don't stand there, but take to your heels and run! They can move very fast when annoyed! I only did an ink sketch of him before that happened, and I finished it with color while we were having lunch in safety! Let's face it, we are in their territory and we have to respect that - just don't get between them and the water as they can kill you if they reach you. They are particularly agressive before mating time.

We had a wonderful day out sketching. Lots of great memories, with my sketches.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #269 May 21 - May 29

Paul- Thanks. Poor Mickey! Nice sketch. Like the pad, brush and palette
Joan- Thanks. Love the panoramic field. Nice boat scene and nightgown. wonderful recipe and communication device
Marriam- Thanks
Robert- Well done Ari cat
Viv- Nice to see you again! Great panorama, lighthouse and buoy. Very interesting to hear about the sea lions. I was in Kaikoura, New Zealand in 1999. I saw a seal that was up on a parking lot near the ocean. A woman decided to get close to take a picture. It got angry and chased her all around the parking lot. Those things are surprisingly fast. Everyone was ok. I bet she never did that again!
Ai- Thanks. Like the panorama. Great job on the bandage, palette and panda. Love the package, pamper and pale. Nice pane and scissors. wonderful pail
EP- Thanks
