The ears haunt me. Never seemed to get them right

Re: Tiger

Hi Lorraine .. that's a pretty nice drawing of a tiger. I have a couple suggestions that might be helpful ... first of all .. be careful in the placement of the pupils. Even a very little misplacement can result in things looking off ... these are close but not quite right. As for the ear hair ... you have the right idea but the hairs need to be "tucked in". Hair grows from the skin outward .. that means the end towards the skin should darken and disappear into the main hair mass.

This is a house cat, but the principle is identical.

But you did a very good job of this in spite of the suggestions. You should be proud of this.

Re: Tiger

Oh I love tigers and you've done a nice job! Thanks Ken for the ear advice, like Lorraine, it's hard for me to get the ears right too! Lorraine, if you're lucky enough to have a housecat running around, you have a good model for tiger drawings. They are quite similar in structure, size is a bit different.

Remember on tigers, there's a big "W" that runs across their face - it starts high up on the outer cheekbones, down toward the muzzle and then up to meet in the middle of the forehead.

Also, when drawing almost any kind of animal hair a quick way to get a realistic look is to start with a firm stroke at the base of the hair and "swoop" up ending with a light stroke. Take a look again at Ken's cat drawing, especially under the ear, notice how light the end of the stroke is.

Let us see some more from you - thanks for sharing!
