Post "East Fork Hotel"

I loved the austerity of this painting. It reflects the facade of a part of life most of us never see, just pass by and look with a feeling of how strange it would be to pass through to the other side. At any time a fork in our own road might takes to the place the man on the bench has come to.

here is a detail:

Hi Spectra........

Too many times in this age people miss out on seeing a simple and beautiful view of life as it SHOULD be and a peek of what it had been.

Just looking at this person sitting on the bench in a snoozing position makes me feel lazy and wish I were the one sitting on that bench or at least walking by. Is this not what life is about? Enjoying a break during your journey in a simplistic fashion. A lot of people forget to do this and some do not know even how to go about it.

If I could make a wish for the whole world right now to experience, it would be to experience a feeling this picture gives off and to be that man on the bench just for a little bit. To be at peace and relaxed just for a moment. Thats what we all need.

I can hear children and a dog barking in the distance, even though you can't see any hint of them.

Thank you for sharing this painting. I really needed this today.

Pilan

Thumbs up

I like this a lot too, quite Hopperesque, and a subject that I'd be drawn to paint. I see something quite different from Pilan though... but that's what art does, doesn't it?

I enjoyed your site, Gene. Are Iris printers quite expensive? Also, where in Central NJ did you grow up? I'm a farm boy from Chesterfield, and get tired of explaining to people that NJ is more than refineries, the Toinpike and "The Sopranos"... my old High School still gets the first day of deer hunting season off.

So, I looked at this picture and did not see the bottle until I looked at it later. What is wonderful is it still does not affect it differently the way I see it.

I just love it.

No truer words and a good reminder. I am a perfect example of my life seemingly moving productively forward and than in a short five year span finding myself on the other fork, lost, and asking myself how could this have happened. It is all a choice, isn't it inspite of the tools one is given or has learned from life?

Your painting is very well rendered and certainly has more to say than your excellent draftsmanship. If I was walking by a in a gallery it would definitely grab my attention more than just the casual look. I see this indiviudal alone, lonely, cheap hotel, no one but the bottle of courage at his side, waiting in the day for something more, other than what he already has. Powerful painting. Good work and welcome! L

Whats so very wonderful is I don't see a cheap hotel and a bum. Its a matter of interpretation and I guess its a good thing

But it is a eye catching piece of art.

Geez I wish I could live in Pilan's world sometimes but, alas, what I see is consistent with the bottle on the bench.
I love this. Very moving.
