20 Weeks, Pregnant...

Started this today... The reference is from my sis n law at 19.5 weeks. She's very slender, so I'm not sure if this is how most women look at this time, haha.

I wanted something very simple in composition, so just her (and the baby) seemed fine. I had played around with add a chair or something, but I think this works.

As for the colors, I wanted to use white and an aqua blue type color to represent fertility and pregnancy. The tones came out very dark, so I'm not to sure about that. Maybe add some lighter blues in the background?

It's 8x10 on Pastelbord with Senns. Acrylic black outlines the girl (Don't worry, I was careful not to overlap the ops).

Any comment's or critiques are welcome before I sign it.

regards,
Cory

And YES, I did actually try a face! A bit Expressive, but works, IMO.

Nice. hand positions indicate she's pregnant even with being slender. I do like the face, but especially the strong pinks next to the blue is quite nice.. I like it.

Re: 20 Weeks, Pregnant...

Thanks Linda and Rich. I think my style allows me some freedom when it comes to hands and faces, as I don't have to be to detailed.

Funny story, Rich, but I took about five pics of my sis n law, and the one I used was the best to indicate her being pregnant. Almost didn't use it, but now happy I did.

I like her pose and the sumplicity of the painting. It has a nice quiet contemplative feel to it.

Re: 20 Weeks, Pregnant...

Cory this is quite a nice piece. It's fortunate you did it at this stage. At eight months, my wife looked like she had a beachball under her dress.

Great job on the eyes... sign it.

Re: 20 Weeks, Pregnant...

Thanks, Hal. I signed it yesterday .

I wanted this stage because my sis n law is currently at this point. Plus, I doubt she'd let me photo her at 8 months. In fact, if she ever reads this forum (99% unlikely), she'd kill me!

I like your painting Alan and am sure your sister-in-law will too. Glad you changed her eye, gives her a better outward appearance.
