Daffy Daffs......

A very quick exercise with 3 colours. Cad yellow, cad red and cobalt blue. Bockingford 300gsm watercolour paper and various artist quality paint. Paper over canvas.

Re: Daffy Daffs......

I like the flowers and their composition. I think the background tends to compete with the flowers. I probably would have kept the entire top background more in line with the upper left with a few stems and leaves at the bottom. I would also add a glaze of the Cad Yellow to the flowers leaving some of the lightest areas as is (will make that area seem whiter).

Re: Daffy Daffs......

Very nice, I agree with Jan about bg...I had trouble identifying stems at first glance...& the glazing will make blooms stand out a little more...like it, though.

Re: Daffy Daffs......

Very nice colors!

How is paper over canvas as far as drying time? I like the idea better than paper over stretcher bars because I think the wood could affect the paper over time unless it was sealed.

Re: Daffy Daffs......

Thank you Carlos, jillanne, Jan and katherine.
I haven't noticed any discernible difference times with paper over canvas. Yes.a must to seal wood before putting paper over wood of any kind.
I had these A4 canvas lying around the house so I thought I might put them to good use.
After sealing with a graphite or pastel archival spray, I varnish with a spray matt. Then they are ready to hang. Much cheaper than glass and framing and you get to see the true beauty of the watercolour, which can be lost behind glass.
