Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

Varied a bit because this area is greener, gently applies the lighter green again, thin coat, before putting more pressure and applying it more thickly so as not to demolish fine shading lines.

Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

Mushed about with white and smoothed white tips I had left into the color, re-defined scales, noticing at last minute that some of what appeared to be large scales were actually made up of smaller ones. Take a look on the flaw magnifier but I can tell it needs a bit more work. The left side is playing better than the right. I also put in the dark in the area above because that helps me see what else needs done to the section I just did

Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

Bad light today for pics... tried to adjust it a bit more, more shadowing, more redefining of scales, made the largest one's left into smaller ones to better fit with the others. Now I'm going to leave it and move along into the same area to see how it fits before any more adjustements. Moving into territory that is not well defined in the ref pic... wanted to try to tackle this part before I got tired.

Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

So.. at the moment, I am not satisfied with the area that I think of as 'by his ear.' (I think it needs to be more shadowed, but I don't want to do that right off the bat only to find out I was wrong and have to break out the eraser )

Instead of continuing to fudge around with that, I went up and as you can see, I'm going to circle down back to it. I'll wait till I get that in before I go about fudging with the area I am not happy with. This section is causing me a bit of anxiety at the moment. Sometimes in a ref. pic with a hot, sparkling eye... you get that eye but there is a price to pay of some out of focus, indistinct, areas that may come along with it as is the case here.

Because of this anxiety, I am having trouble getting started again. Young People: If this happens to you, think of your favorite song of the moment, go hunt that down on youtube and then you'll feel better.

I picked this one for myself because it's just plain funny

After I played my song, I felt more positive and got the bright idea to go look directly at my ref. pic on the computer, where I can see this challenge area as accurately as possible. Even though I have barely any room to work there, it will be the best possible help I can get at the moment.

Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

Nervous so - First I took a big drink of water to clear any dehydration and give me my best chance.

Went to the computer and pulled up ref. pic, enlarged area as large as I could get it without crystalizing... brightened it up high... I was trying to see the pattern of dark markings, this was not possible when I mapped it out because even making the photo copy as light as possible, they still didn't show, just a dark blob. I wanted to know the difference between large scale markings and actual shadows.

(you can't see the dark areas very well in what I posted, but blown up on the computer and looking right at it I could )

Once I did that I just free handed the markings in.. these don't have to be too perfect because this area is going to wind up pretty dark in the end. I just feel better know wear they about are because getting the markings right helps make the piece life like in the end. Now I'm feeling more confident about this challenge area.

UH! And it goes like this....

I've got the moves like Jaggar, I got the moves like Jaggar
I've got the mooo-ooo-ooo-OO-moves like Jaggar....

Re: Mr. Shifty w.i.p.

Little by little, darkening mushing, darkening mushing...
The whole area, "ear" and hump will get a revisit but moving on to the top right now to help me decide what to do on that revisit...

UH! And it goes like this....

The 3D effect you are achieving is outstanding. You should be very proud of this, it is a testament to your patience and skill.
I wish you lots of luck with the rest
