Thought I'd try an Owl... WIP (sort of...)
Morning Chaps,
After 'Fruit Basket' I though I'd try an animate object, so a Barn Owl was the choice. Not really a WIP cause I'm posting this half way through. It's on Stonehenge black - although I like working on black paper, it works with you, it's quite hard work. Prismas, Derwents and Aquarelle pencils.

Cheers Karen, dunno about that ... 8-( If I do another, I'll try on lighter paper I think. Obviously, it's how artists render their subjects, but seeing one done on lighter paper (better artists though, too...) it makes a difference.

I think it is also coming along very well! I love drawing on colored paper (matts in my case) because I feel it almost always makes the subject pop! But of course you need to pick the right color. Maybe next time don't use black but a midtone grey???? Something to think about - but don't worry about this one- looks great!

I have only tried blue paper which I painted myself so black would be a huge challenge for me. I think your owl is look fabulous and I am sure it is going to be great when finished.

I really like it, like the colours you're using and the contrast against the black paper - very nice work

Re: Thought I'd try an Owl... WIP (sort of...)
Great Subject Ange and excellent rendering of great subject . Could you maybe include the odd touch of complementary colour in there not too hide and cover but to act as a foil for all the lovely natural shades you have going on . Just an idea and of course I do know you are only halfway so I have maybe jumped the gun.....
I'll just go over and join Marie in the corner, I am shutting up now
I can't wait for more updates

I think this is great - I like the black paper and the developing owl image is beautiful.

Morning Cchaps,
and many thanks for your comments and encouragement! Ali - do you mean a bit of background? Yeah, it's in the pipeline.... just thinkin' about it...
Must say, I've discovered that Aquarelle white pencil seems far better than either Prismas, FC Polys or Derwent - not wetting them, they just seem creamier and stay on the paper better (if that makes sense...)
