Stunning work Ruth! I think the last one is my favorite but the difference between the first location in just a few days time is really fun to see! Almost made me feel like i was in the north again! Thank you for sharing these!

oooh--nice. Love the autumn and all the color changes. And I just read a quote--on a paper placemat, no credit given--"If you find yourself becoming resistant to change, just remember the beauty of autumn."

Oh Wow Ruth.!!!!!!
Beautiful, delicious work. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. I've been working outside alot lately trying to get ready for yet another show, have about 5 shows up in Fl/Ga at the moment. This is a splendid time to paint in Florida and the South. Our color changes are more subtle than yours but rich all the same for their nuances. What is the gallery scene like for landscape painters in your area?

Thank you for your nice comments. The last one was actually finished after I got it home, the others just started in less than 2 hours. They'll be dressed up eventually.

Linda, I don't know much about galleries. I'm represented in two local ones and one in Columbia SC. Haven't sold much, yet. Most of my work is mural work in homes and businesses. The trouble with living and exhibiting in a tourist town is that most people aren't here to buy art, they want t-shirts and souvenirs.
I used to sell a lot of mini-seascapes, but burned out on that. I got tired of painting the same thing over and over, started changing them, and had to give them away.

Hhhmmm....I don't know, such an offer from an immortal one. Is this a game of the gods, a visitation of mythic proportions? To toy with the minds of us mere mortals???

Ruth, your last two pieces have successfully grabbed the jugular of the spirit of this scene and nailed it. Primarily because you succeeded in appealing contrast which keeps the eye of the viewer busy, yet not burdened with confusion.

The first two pieces have a contrast problem, IMO...because the values are too similar. For one thing...you have blue in the water which reflects the sky, but you have gray in the skies. I very quickly took the image, intensified the contrasts with light and dark values, warm versus cool colors..which kills some of that dead color that for some can come off muddy. For example...I put a bit of cool violet/blue around the trees to help the trees look more luminiscent.

Then...I lightened the atmosphere's horizon and brightened it up some, as well as the water. A bit of sparkles in the water to liven it up as well.

Dear All,
I have been painting like mad this week right here in my yard. The subtle changes in North Florida are much more to my liking than the splashy colors further north. Guess I'm a Florida Girl.
I'm painting lots of golds and smokey greys that weren't there just a few weeks ago. We have gone from intense lemon yellows and emerald green to smokey and butter colors. Yummy painting right now!!
