Monterey Harbor

I almost didn't paint this. It seemed a little ambitous and I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. There were an awful lot of boats to paint. I decided to paint this as impressionistic as I could and still give the look of having some detail in the boats. This is 30x40" oil on canvas. I included a couple of close ups.

Re: Monterey Harbor

Your closeups provide good views of your brushwork. Did you use a palette knife or a rigger type brush to paint the masts and their reflections?

Re: Monterey Harbor

Hi AJ. I used a fine liner brush for the masts and reflections.

Re: Monterey Harbor

I don't think you sacrificed anything Brian, rather than having to called it impressionsitic or less detailed, I think it was just brilliantly painted! Those close ups show some very nice painting on your part.

Re: Monterey Harbor

First let me say that you are a brave soul to take on that many boats, Brian. Now let me say that this is absolutely brilliant.

Re: Monterey Harbor

You're a long way from Monterey but you nailed it as if you were painting on scene. Another beautiful painting Brian.

Re: Monterey Harbor

This is the kind of painting that every time you looked at it you could notice a little thing you had not seen before. It is alive and 'sparkles' when I look at it on the computer. IRL it must be breathtaking.

wish I wasn't so poor- this is one I would add to my private museum, well, if I had one....

Thanx 4 posting, this pleaseth our eye, Greg
