Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Happy RAINY Monday from Mid-Michigan,
It's grey, cool and rainy here. I didn't make it to the wash yesterday. Was busy watching Klaira. UGh...my back aches too. All the lifting and holding. She's sure one busy baby. She's adorable though. So cute are the things she's doing now.
We weren't able to see the super moon either. Cloudy. It wasn't a very nice weekend weather-wise for us; cold, wet and gray. Today isn't looking too promising either. I'm ready for the weather we had in March! I'm hoping that our spring shapes up real soon.
Ona, I LOVE all those home make-over shows. I watched several on Saturday while Klaira played on a blanket with her toys. I think it'd be so much fun spending other peoples money. Of course they'd be looking at your "Meh" painting; it's superbly painted I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself and that you met Birgit; isn't she a wonderful lady?
Oh no Uschi, I'm so sorry about your fender bender. I hate to think how much $$ it will cost to get it all fixed up.
(((Char))) I hope your back feels better soon
((JJ)), those were wonderful pics you took with your cell phone of the pier. Gorgeous moon. Have fun on your bush walk.
Caryl, the sidewalk art you shared was delightful! So sorry you were eaten up by the skeeters.
Bill, glad Ms Feral came back and that you have most of your deck painted.
Doug so glad you enjoyed the outdoor concert. WHOOHOO to meeting Tommy and his DW.
Geoff, drinking hot chocolate works for some people; perhaps you are one of them.
Annie, you are always doing something in your lovely yard/lawn. Did you get those bulbs planted?
Ellen, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Toronto.
Waving to all who I've missed; I have read the washes but seem to get more forgetful everyday.
Enjoy your Monday everyone and make it a CREATIVE ONE!

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Morning all.
Ordered the missing pigments yesterday. Otherwise, spent yesterday reading and picking up after DH's camping trip.
I figured out a light skin tone mix that I LOVE, Holbein Opera and DS Cobalt Yellow. I'm still trying to work on portraits. I have that bee in my bonnet.
We missed out on every drop of rain that came through the state yesterday, can you believe it? Ugh. Can't beg, borrow, or steal rain here.
DS gets his braces off tomorrow. Buy your corn on the cob today, because after 2.5 years, none of it is safe after 10am tomorrow! He can't wait!
HAGDY'all!

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Good Morning all,
It is almost 10:00 a.m. here in Oakwood. Nice weather today, storms tonight though. Sky is overcast but still bright.
I sat the High Street Gallery for the Tri-Art Show yesterday and took photos between visitors. Posted the pictures here if you would like to see the talented artists we have in the Dayton area. There are all different mediums represented but a good number of watercolorists. The judge really like the collaged works, a couple of them walked away with ribbons.
Gail, I took a picture of my garlic plants to show you. I am beginning to feel like Jack and the Beanstalk. The garlic is trying to grow to the sky, it is almost 2' high already and doesn't look like it is ready to pick yet.
Is that normal? I grew garlic once before when we lived in Illinois but it didn't get this big.
Still working on my peony painting. Got the flowers done pretty much, but am now tackling the background. I was only going to paint the peonies, but decided to add the lilacs now because it looked to bare without them. Will take it to class this afternoon along with a blank sheet for Nita's water painting lesson.
Uschi, So sorry about the accident. I know what a horrible feeling that is after seeing our new car backed into by our neighbor's friend pulling out of a driveway. Don't be too shocked when you hear what it is going to cost to fix it. $$$$$ for sure.
Darla, I used to like This Old House years ago when they would work on average income homes. Now all they do is pricey homes adding more bells and whistles. Just can't relate to that, I'm afraid. We enjoy watching House Hunters International though because they go to all kinds of countries and you get to see the kinds of housing available there. Little things like clothes washers in the kitchen or bathroom which is so different than here in the States.

Hi
Had a busy day yesterday, my wife had her spinal pain block proceedure carried out. It was painful but she is hoping to get some relief, but will take a few days to find out
Ona I know who that pair are, they used to live local to me, they are on the TV here often, doing various home shows. Great painting by the way!
My Adobe photoshop will not load, I have tried dozens of times, but to no avail
Cold and windy here, Aran sweater time I believe

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
 Everyone,
I've been relaxing all morning but time to get moving now. I want to clean out our larger pond and get the waterfall set up. First I need to put a load of wash on the line.
Caryl - I just wanted to warn you about using Opera. I know it's a beautiful colour but it is the most fugitive of all the pigments. It will so fade to nothing leaving only the other colours in any mix using it. I threw mine away as soon as I realized that and substituted other colours.
Have a great start to the week everyone.

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Well, the lady who bashed into me isn't going to be happy, the estimate is for $ 1661.00 It's the bent in metal (the actual car) that costs most of the money.
Henry, I soooo hope the pain of the block was worth it!!! How nice that you have such a wonderful sweater to fall back on
Sylvia, you have to excuse me while I At first glance I was so surprised how tall your corn had already grown until I realized that it was the garlic. I think Larry's green "farming" thumb got a bit carried away Thanks for showing us photos of the art show, I left a message there.
Caryl, good for your son He'll be sooooo happy and if he is anything like my grandson, his teeth will suddenly look huge.
As to the super moon, I hate to say it, but I really didn't think it was THAT super. Was expecting bigger and better
Darla, that you have such a cute baby to have fun with.
Hi Raikiart and Allan!!!

Me again, am surprised that there wren't any posts since 11:40 a.m., that's three hours
Anyway, I have been to the Collission Reporting Center and filled out all the necessary papers, had pictures taken of the damage, then came home and called the insurance company; because I had soooo many years without a claim I won't have to pay any deductables All I have to do now is go and play table tennis
Caryl, yes, such a shame, Oprah is such a pretty colour, I have one in my box too.
Char, I hope your back feels better

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Uschi that is good news.
And I agree, opera rose is lovely. I am half tempted to get it just for sketch books, because it is so darn 80's. How am I supposed to accurately portray leg warmers without it?
I was supposed to go to the garage to get an oil change, and tires rotated, but instead I came home and showered. During the last 10 minutes of work a student accidentally spit his water all over me, and spilled his water all over my slacks and shoes. Really, one of the last things I wanted was to go sit in a garage for an hour or two covered in saliva.
Anyway, at least tonight I'll get to relax and paint and repeat to myself 'It's nice to get a paycheck, it's nice to get a paycheck...'

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Good afternoon everyone - it was a beautiful morning, but has clouded over now.
Yea - I THINK I've finally foiled the ducks - one of them slipped under the gate just after I put them back yesterday - I didn't see it - it was the split second my back was turned, but I heard her slide under, turned around and she was right there. Fortunately they are very easy to get back in. I put strips of plexiglass (left over from the greenhouse) along the bottom of the gates, and up between them - pushed plastic boxes against them, and so far, so good. Betty

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Hi again,
Finished my peony painting in class. Will take a photo tomorrow and post it. Doug has sent me a copy of his beautiful photo of Lake Garda at Dusk to use for my class on water. I couldn't get it to come out of the RIL by itself. No matter what I did, the whole page with three or four photos and text came with it.

Uschi, The lady backed into your car right???? Why are you having to deal with your insurance company???? When the same thing happened to us, the person who drove into our car sent her insurance rep around the next morning and they handled the whole thing. We didn't even report it to our insurance company since we weren't at fault.
Henry, I hope your wife's surgery helps give her relief from the pain.
to all who were here between my visits.
Cheers,
Sylvia

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Love the garlic plants, there are giant varieties that head for the sky, have a wee feel under the soil you may have something ready to enjoy. I'm in Sunny Scotland probably 1,200 miles North of where you are, I'm equal in Latitude to Churchill in Canada, so Garlic takes a year from planting to harvesting. So the first of the month is garlic planting day. Couple bulbs split up and planted outevery month gives me a crop for the whole year. Little fiery slightly purple from the cold bulbs, but far creamier and sometimes more pungent than anything fom a store. "Elephant" made giant plants, but my favourite is a Japanese one, slightly green cloves , quite firm but a wonderful one for cooking.
As for worrying about a cat, yep that's in the owner's manual; along with expect bits of mice in your slippers, and be surprised the day he complains that the squirrel's tail he's just got in a fight isn't very meaty. Tiger hates squirrels with a passion.Walked home once, before he adopted us over a neighbour, to see him sitting on top of a electricity pole. Probably 25 feet in the air. His solution to getting down was to jump straight into the nearest hawthorn hedge, scared me then, still does 17 years later, particulary when he decides the pheasant needs chased, and jumps 8 foot down into the river and swims off to shout at Grok Grok the pheasant. Currently curled up snoring on a cushion near the heating; as he's the only person allowed to snore; that's Tiger, not Grok Grok.

Re: *** Daily Wash Monday 7th May 2012 ***
Quick pop in from me very late in the day.
Did some weeding this afternoon - the garlic bed - which is about 10 - 12 inches high. Tomorrow the strawberry bed if it is not raining.
Speaking of garlic Sylvia...... Your garlic was poking through the ground when mine was still covered in snow. If I remember correctly, you bought the cloves from your market or grocery store. They are most likely soft neck garlic. If so, they don't grow scapes. The stalks will just start to turn yellow and die back at some point in June or early July. That is when you harvest them, and cure them (hang to dry in bunches ). Once the stalks start to turn yellow do not water them. At any time you can carefully dig the soil away from one or two to feel the size of the bulb because timing of the harvest is critical for storage of the bulbs. If they happen to be hardneck and start to form the scapes let me know because the timing from harvesting the scapes to harvesting the bulbs is sooner.
Uschi, I was wondering why you were getting quotes as well. Does the person who hit your car want to pay out of pocket without going through her insurance company ? If so make sure you get a certified cheque made out to the repair company but I am sure you know that.
 Char
Welcome Stew !!!!
I am sore so am now going to head up stairs to read and recline.
See you in my morning and to all that I did not address.
Cheers,
Gail
