Re: The Drawing Room May 6 ~ May 13

They're about 1400km (875m) apart but they are affected by different weather systems. You have the wine-lands in the Cape because of the winter rainfall which gets brought in by cold fronts originating in the Antarctica. The cold air sometimes makes it to Johannesburg but the rain mostly gets stopped by a mountain range about 100km inland from the coast. Behind this range lies the Karoo semi-desert. In summer Johannesburg rain usually originates over central Africa. Sometimes it comes from the Indian ocean with pretty heavy rains if a cyclone slips into the Mozambican Channel. In winter there is a high pressure system over the interior and that stops the rain coming from the tropics. In summer the cold fronts pass to the south of the country so the Cape region is mostly free of summer rain.

Makes sense, I have not looked at a map, but probably similar to east/west Colorado which are separated by the Rockie Mountains, makes for interesting times for weather forcasters, particularly in spring and fall.

Took a peek at the map...

I was thinking Johannesburg was on the coast as well, but it is much more inland near the Kalahari.

Poor Luicre
Hope that next week wont be as bad as you expect it at work Take it easy for the weekend girl

Interesting weather conversation Wish I could predict how to avoid the rain here
Cloudy out there now, but still dry and mild. The cloud cover should at least keep last nights ground frost at bay for tonight. Left 12 of my mares and foals out tonight, so all will be well.

Re: The Drawing Room May 6 ~ May 13

Sorry, can't help but post my mother poem:

Mama’s Grave

When everyone else had gone away
I stood and watched the men --
grave-diggers, the coverer-uppers.

They hung back giving space
in the tree shrouded graveyard
because they’d seen it before.

My need to be there -- alone, the last,
the oldest son’s goodbye. I bent
and scooped the dry clodded earth

Rolling it ‘round in my hand.
I dropped it carefully clump by clump
as the men stood silently by.

I heard each thump, each sound, each tap
on the silver-gray lidded box echo inside,
a hollow sound, a knocking at the door.

Re: The Drawing Room May 6 ~ May 13

I am back
Got to the park at about quarter past 1 and the car park was over crowded. Ian started sulking within seconds of getting into the park and I thought ..... Why oh why did I bother .......
But it turned out to be a great day The boys behaved perfectly and because I could persuade them to walk the whole circle twice, we managed to watch a lot of the animals being fed and I got extra photo opportunities And because it was after 4pm by then, the sun had lowered and the photos turned out a bit better. It was worth it

Came home to a cooked supper and now chilling with a cup of coffee. Tired kids and a mom after some much needed time out .... life is good

Kenny what a touching poem...

I am travelling for a big meeting at a beautiful place at Cordoba`s state. Of course superboss it`s going to be there. But I have been told that the hotel is so beautiful that superboss will be maybe relaxed and kind. And I can ignore him....

After that I will be at my twins`s appartment for a couple of days.
