German Shorthaired Pointer - Finished!
Thought I would share a little bit of the latest commission I am working on. It is a surprise for the recipient so I haven't been able to share it on Facebook....but feeling like I need some more eyes!
I have actually vacillated between love and hate on this one. Not sure if it will be really good or really bad....have you ever felt that way?
The ref is such a super high contrast photo...maybe it was better suited to graphite or scratchboard...but I guess I will get through it! They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right??? Sean

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer
Don't be so hard on yourself Sean . I think the head is looking superb, as you say you are just having one of those crisis of confidence we have all had and will probably continue having.....well I know I will with each new learning experience .
The only thing I would change is the bump on the viewer's left of the top of his head -its a little too pronounced .
I am pullin' up a chair for this you have an excellent start .

Looking good to me! it is difficult to translate from such a high contrast photo, but I think you have done it very well so far.

I think it looks great! Doing art work is like putting a little of ourselves out there and it can be very intimidating. You have nothing to feel regretful here.. This is going to be an amazing piece!

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer
Also looking good to me.
It's a bit hard to tell but are you including both collars in the portrait? Personally I would remove the hi viz yellow one if possible.

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer
Thanks for your comments! Kiwi Girl...I removed the large yellow tracking collar, but not the orange field collar....Also I should add this is 11 x 14 colored (Warm White) Stonehenge paper and Prismas....

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer
Thanks for all your positive comments gang!
I am not usually this way but this piece has really been tough at times! I know we all go through the "uglylies," but this one really pushed me to my limits! Thankfully I think we are past that now!
Here is a small update from the weekend!

I really like this! You have a nice feel for the subject. I am always happy when I get past the uglies that is for sure. Keep up the good work - will be watching intently

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer
I think you're handling the shadows on the face really well, it looks great especially considering the ref photo which is poor - will check back!

I felt this same way about a piece I just finished. (Bullmastiff) I just told myself that I have to try & finish it because it was becoming a habit to leave it & walk away.
Just keep working on it Sean, & it will all come together. From my point of view, this is looking awesome!!!
