Re: A-Z: Ferdinand HODLER
Practical art to do:
1. copy one of Hodler's artworks in any medium
2. try your own version of art nouveau style based on your study of Hodler's work
Happy painting!!

It's good to get to know another artist. I like his style too.

Thank you, June, for the challenge. While I like the first piece, I dislike doing fingers and so I'll pass.

Like the pastels Sandra. You have a real feel for his portraits.
Watched the video and felt like a lot of the people in his paintings were dancing off the canvas.

Here is the original I worked from
and here is what I ended up with....inspired by, I guess. Couldn't get the angle of the head right

Re: A-Z: Ferdinand HODLER
Lovely expressive work, Janet. The angle of the head does look difficult to copy, Janet, but I like your version..she seems to have a secret. Good job on her hair too.
Sandra your portraits are also beautifully expressive. I love the first one especially. He seems quite Modigliani-ish.

Re: A-Z: Ferdinand HODLER
these are all strong in different ways.
Sandra - I like the last one. I like the bend and the melting look....
Janet - I agree with June....that is a hard portrait to copy but you did admirably You got the heavy quality and the expression quite well
June - you have me wondering if he is gonna float off or is already floating with the grass...which seems to billow/move somehow. I like the form of the folded legs/thighs and knees.
His work is powerful and the use of color charms me

Re: A-Z: Ferdinand HODLER
Absolutely lovely June. He does seem to be floating.
Here is one in pen and ink and crayola crayons:

Re: A-Z: Ferdinand HODLER
Hi Janet, I agree with Robin's comments! Your figure has a whimsical smile!
Yes I agree my boy in the grass looks as if he is floating...I could put a shadow under him to anchor him but as its just a quick study, I'll leave him like this. I also admire Hodler's colour schemes, Robin!
