Re: The Plant Parade, a forum Project: May 2012

Here is my Bird of Paradise:

I had this initial vision that was more "Art Nouveau-ish" but that never came out I don't think. But that's okay, at least a complete piece came out of it

I will have to come back and comment on everyone else's beautiful works soon

Re: The Plant Parade, a forum Project: May 2012

Well - eventually got my other two photographed this morning. Over the last couple of days, every time I got my camera out the storms started up, and indoors ugh, horrible photos.
This one was actually the first one I did (that pure white background is still giving me trouble in the photos)

My thrird is based on a Roman fresco at Herculeneum (near Pompei). Just to show that there is nothing new under the sun. My second attempt - the first was in Pitt markers, which turned out UGH, but I like the idea which I thought it was quite art nouveaish so redid it in gouache on a watercolour wash.

Both A4 on Bristol board.

Re: The Plant Parade, a forum Project: May 2012

Thank you all for your nice comments on my first effort.

Ulla Nice interpretation. Simple but effective.

Vivien A truly regal BOP, set off nicely by that circle and the purple.

Maureen Wonderful design. It looks almost like a Hindu painting, with the colours and the swirly feeling you have.

Rozzi Beautiful painting. You took the brief to heart and it is painted so well.

Barbara Like your colour combination and lovely design with a hint of art deco.

EP The design works both in black and white and in colour. Great interpretation of the BOP - looks like it is dancing for joy.

Nur Nice design and I love the reference to the PP and the paint palette. Very well thought out.

Trier I like the effect the watercolour has on the paper in your paintings. Both are nice and have a lively feel. I like the first best.

Katherine Nice entwined BOP. Nice and colourful.

Skatty Nothing to say apart from wonderfully done.

Agnes Unusual and fascinating design.

Margaretta Another good take on the brief. What a lot of thought provoking thoughts went into this one. Wonderful.

Bonnie Love your colour combos and how the BOP sits within the design.

Elaine Stunning result - looks like a silk painting

Lil That dark background makes the BOP pop.

Robert A very stately BOP

Chana What a lovely soft lit effect you have there, and an unusual colour combination that works very well.

Joan Nice painting (and so small). Wonderful result. They look like they're poking their heads above the foliage asking "What's going on here?"

Cindy A really nice design. Love the way your swirls and leaves encircle the BOPs

Leslie Another nicely painted BOP

Kay Great painting and what a loth of fun.

Nicole Welcome. I hope we will be seeing more of your lovely artwork.

Jamie4 Well designed and the black and white fits so well with the BOP. Takes me back to the 60s with those black and white stripes.

Angie Nice colour combination in the painting. I like it a lot.

What a superb range of paintings this month, and what a turn out. Katherine thanks so much for hosting. It took me a while to get into the idea, but then found it quite addictive . Thanks for making me do something unusual.

I hope you will all join me next month. Frantically trying to think of something challenging now that Katherine has set the benchmark so high

Re: The Plant Parade, a forum Project: May 2012

Marion, GF, you have set the bar higher for all of us!! These are brilliant works!! Love the colors, the twists, the weaving, the. . .all of it!! Wow and Wow!!

I think that we have all shown that the Bird of Paradise fits in with the Art Nouveau style beautifully!! I am sure that Mucha would have used it if he had thought of it! Thanks for your awesome Garden entries!! You have outdone yourselves, but, Marion, our hostess for June, is going to want you to remember the energy that you generated and keep it going for the next month's PP!!

Hugs, Katherine

Re: The Plant Parade, a forum Project: May 2012

I'm sorry I forgot to mention the medium of my piece: 8x10" with soft pastels

meggs: I really love your second piece!

Ulla: Your shading definitly creates a flow that goes so completely with the art nouveau style

Viv: Spot on!Such an elegant and colourful piece!

Maureen: I simply adore your colour scheme! And all the little details: Gorgous!

Rozzi: You definitly hit the Mucha right on! I had thought about doing a person as well, but I definitly would not have been able to pull it off as lovely as you have

Barbara: Such a pretty piece! I almost thought it was stained glass at first! It just has such a "shine" to it

eyepaint: Great line work!

Nur: wonderful patterns throughout your piece. I really enjoyed the symmetry to it

Trier: great takes on the theme! Of the two, the first would have to be my favourite!

Katherine: great colours, and I really like that wrapping vine you added

Marion: what a great piece, and such pretty colours. You have so much "flowing lines" going on

Scatty: the typography in your piece is stunning

Agnesdale: great piece! I will have to try watercolour on clay board soon, I liked the effect

Margaretta: What a beautifully detailed piece!

Bonnie: great colours

Elaine: love the digital shading you were able to achieve! I think it's often more hard to work digitally than on paper, so kudos to you for a remarkable piece

Artsymom: beautiful flower and lovely frame

Robert: great watercolour!

Chana: lovely piece! Great to see more pastels here!

Joan T: lovely use of negative space for your piece!

ANGIE - I love the softness of your BOP, and never mind the missing art nouveau. This piece is complete without it.

MARION - Both of yours are one of a kind, totally original, and extremely creative. I like the blue bird perched there on the bloom.

Jamie - Thank you. My painting probably would be good on a seed packet. Where is Burpee's number??? lol I love your painting, even if it isn't traditional art nouveau. The contrast of the color of the flower against the b&w of the leaves makes it really stand out.

Judy - Thank you.

Angie - Thanks. Love the harmonious look to your piece. Nicely done!

Marion - Thanks! Your pieces are lovely!!! I really like your rich colors and all the loops and swirls...Very nice!

EP - Thanks!
