Merlot?

so.... I don't think the idea of wine is as good as coffee....
But I have an opportunity to sneak into some AZ wineries.
I don't want to change the subject much, but I fear the technique in PURPLE just is not as impactful...
Seriously, input me!

Re: Merlot?
Well it is my first wax practice piece.
I have Dorlands wax medium. Tomorrow I am going to see the demo, but this was densely fixatived, then UV spray protected and I held my breath and rubbed the wax varnish on. Looked fine.
I have been told to hide it from myself for a couple of days and let the varnish polymerize and when it gets cloudy THEN buff it down. The wax rises out and leaves a nice satiny surface if you buff it up...... or so they tell me.

Re: Merlot?
This wine would be perfect with flowery blouse, torquoise necklace...colorful appearal. Fancy dresses or how they wear flowery hats for Kentucky Derby. I just wonder if color in background with no color as focal works well. Your coffee background works with charcoal because its a neutral color. Thats my two cents

Re: Merlot?
I guess it all depends on your audience. I'm sure the verde valley wineries would eat this up w a large tastevin!
Next up - mustard for the delis? Well, that may be going too far, but I do like this idea for the wineries.

Re: Merlot?
hehehehe!
I was thinking a bit more color or thinning down the brew.
I have a micro brewer buddy who I am asking to save the dregs. I could splatter that on and see how it turns out for texture. Just a bit too koolaid for me.

Re: Merlot?
One big difference between this a coffee, is that the coffee has a wonderful variation in tone that the wine doesn't have. Here it's either purple or it's not. Wonder if just flat-out smashing some grapes would get you some excitement in the background? (It would sure be fun to try )
Still, your cowgirls are always wonderful whether they're wrangling stock or relaxing with some vino. Love your work!!

Off to snap a girlfriend in costume....
I have been experimenting and might actually have a couple of ways to soften and jazz it up.
THIS is probably why I am poor.... did I leave the house to try to sell any of these????? NOPE!

Re: Merlot?
Generally, people like warm tones over cool ones. The wine is a purple, and therefore is cool. Personally, I like the coffee better. Great experiment!

Re: Merlot?
so, I am diluting to barely anything and this is how it compares to the first one:

I masked the lights and am double splashing very dilute wine...

Re: Merlot?
close and without masking:

The contrast is lower but I saved the whites. WINE is more staining and less forgiving.

Re: Merlot?
Interesting to see the wine's color in your work. Depending on the subject matter, I think this could be great, but I do like the warmth of the coffee, especially for western subjects. Great work on this!
