Whoooooosh!
I'm sorry to tell you that I'm back to Royalty again, after all Apparently I'm related to Gruffyd, King of Wales and his lineage goes all the way back to Caractacus, King of Britain. Caractacus's father came to the throne in the year 009!!! All fascinating stuff!!
............and on that note, I'm off to my bedchamber

Re: The Drawing Room Apr 29 ~ May 6
Good morrow, my subjects
Some information about the Welsh King, Gruffydd can be found here: http://www.castlewales.com/gruffydd.html He battled with King Harold of 1066 fame, and after Gruffyddd was killed, Harold then married his widow!
The Aelfgar of Mercia in the battles is the connection on my tree to Lady Godiva. He was her son. I'm searching for more info, because apparently Aelfgar must have had a child with a daughter of Gruffydd, as Godiva and Gruffyd are both named as grandparents of a female in the tree and Aelfgar is named as the father. I, so far, have only found one daughter of King Gruffy, Nesta, and she had about 10 children, all with different fathers!
Right, I'll shut up now as I'm probably boring you all to death................

Family trees are always cool .. and generally full of surprises. Jan - your family seems to have been morally challenged ... so we understand if you can't help yourself.

Oh that's good, Kenny.....phew! I'm finding it all so interesting, that I rabbit on about it to anyone who'll listen
My cousin started the tree and found several of the "Sir's", Baronets, etc, and I've found a hell of a lot more just by googling these people! I haven't told her yet, as I want to get as much detail as I can find, put them in order as much as I can, then I'll send her the files. I'm compiling a sort of history "book" for Mum, about people like Gruffyd, Lady Godiva, and any one else who has a bit of a story to tell. She can't take in all the info about the tree, she gets too confused, so I thought that she'd like more of a family "history", instead.

Unfortunately, Ken, I'm one of the good girls. The nearest I ever get to being "bad" is the odd "Whoooooosh" here at WC.

A few years back I did a bit of research and was able to trace back a bit to family in Virginia or some such but nothing beyond that. I'm just an American Mongrel.

Another branch of my tree leads to America, but I haven't got as far as that yet. All of the info I've got so far is from the lines of my Mum's paternal grandparents! Who knows what I'll find when I venture into the rest of the family!

Re: The Drawing Room Apr 29 ~ May 6
Most families these days seem to have someone who is fascinated in tracing family roots .. I have an aunt who has spent the last 25 years doing that. It seems I have a direct line to Daniel Boone and a more varied one to Miles Standish. And on the other side I go back to Holland in the distant past. No royalty though ... so no inheritance ... sigh.
