1st scratch board "Beulah-May"

Well, this is my first scratch board. Beulah-May is my goofy Bloodhound, and I did this from a photo from when she was a pup. It is on an 8x10 ampersand board. I used an old overhead projector from when I used to paint signs, and though it worked fairly well, alot of the details were lost in the transfer, so I then printed out the photograph after changing it to black and white. I could then look at it as I worked, and see the hair better. I used an exacto knife and a speedball tip. Looking forward to starting my next one. This one took about 3 weeks to do. Alot of late nights. It still has lots of fingerprints on it, as the varnish has not arrived yet.

What a wonderful face - such pretty eyes and her little nose looks great! Well done! I think you'll like what happens when the varnish hits your work, it was a great surprise for me!

Re: 1st scratch board "Beulah-May"

Thank you so much! I am really eager to learn all I can, and have been pouring over the info on this wonderful site. I enjoy scratch, because with our busy farm life, I do not have large blocks of time to devote to it, and we also have a pretty small house, with a goofy Bloodhound that gets into everything. She is a HORRIBLE thief, and always has been. (good thing she is cute, eh?)
Scratching is perfect for me because there are so few materials- I can work for 5 minutes or 5 hours without having to set up or clean up for an hour, and Beulah-May is not able to steal the tools, as I keep them all in a small case. I am starting another scratch tonight, of Miss Beulah-May again,-(Can ya tell how much I love my dog?) This one will be of her as an adult, as she is almost 3 years old.
Anyway, thank you all for your wonderful welcome and comments on my 1st, and I look forward to making new friends, new scratch boards and learning more about this fun and interesting art form.

Re: 1st scratch board "Beulah-May"

I scanned it into the computer this time. I dont know why I didnt do that before, but the flash and glare of the camera made it look really different than it actually is, so here is the way it really looks.
