Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge
WELCOME TO THE MAY DIFFERENT STROKES CHALLENGE .
If you would like to host a Different Strokes, please see the Schedule thread here
Please read the guidelines below carefully.
GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo (or photos) will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".
Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic.
Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference(s) (whole or cropped)
and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.
Be as inventive, creative and different as you wish!
PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**
At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.
**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ......
that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!
By all means ask questions in the thread or initiate discussion about the challenge - just don't post images!!!
Hi everybody. Hope you enjoy these references. They are photos of trees taken on my last visit to South Africa. Looking forward to what you create . Happy painting.

Hi Robbie, hope you will be joining in. It is your world of creativity in any painting that you do so perhaps one of your gorgeous 'kitties' in a tree.Who knows, hug.
Jermel, whichever one you decide upon, I am sure it will be a delight. Looking forward to your post.

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge
That's a magnificent tree Chammi! It really fosters the imagination. My daughter came back from Kruger National Park last week so hoping she will inspire some good ideas. Thank you for the interesting reference.

Nice pictures, I love Acacias, they look so beautiful in spring... You're lucky to be in Africa. I hope I can join in this month.

Maureen, you are right. It does look like an elephant's foot. Great idea. Looking forward to what you come up with.
Margaretta. The Kruger is just fantastic and I am sure your daughter will be able to inspire you with lots of ideas.
Bruce. Goody, glad to have you on board.
Dominika. I love Acacias too. I also hope you can join in this month.

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge
Oh thank heavens none of those trees are wrapped in plastic!!!!LOL! These are lovely reference pics Chammi! I never even knew there were such trees as baobab trees until I went onto another painting site and saw one painted! They're fascinating to me! I agree with Maureen , the middle one does look like an elephant's foot! The shape of the 3rd one is very nice and the Acacia tree is pretty too and the surrounding scenery! I hope to join ya'll on this one too! I think it'll be a lot easier than last month's!Thanks for hosting Chammi!~Joan

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge
I'm hoping to join this month, also. On the first photo, it looks sort of like a nest on the far right side of the branches. That may be something to play with. Very interesting and unusual trees - at least unusual for me.

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge
Keith, that's great. Do another one if you have the time. I am so looking forward to the paintings.
Joan, my pleasure. I hope you will find time to join us. The more, the more fun - fascinating to see what different artists do with the photos.
Sandy, that is very observant of you. I hadn't noticed but I think you are right. It is a nest. Glad you like the trees. Typical African species. Be nice if you can join in.
