Just joined and excited to be here...
I grew up in the foothills of Storm King Mountain in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY where the beauty of the country and it's wildlife influenced my life. I was sketching as soon as I could hold a pencil, and collecting rocks before that. I'd notice rocks on the side of the road would sometimes have little silvery flecks that sparkled in the sun. Given the chance, I'd choose the best and tote them home. Around home I'd find that some rocks held secret treasures of fossilized ferns. And so began my love for all things in nature and my attempt to express it's beauty in pictures, paintings, and crafts.
An art major, my path led me thru various career experiences. Visual Merchandising, retail sales, some modeling, and finally, accounting! Always expressing my love for nature and painting, I sold several paintings and won several awards. And of course it wasn't hard to fall in love with jewelry given I already had a love for rocks. So when the opportunity presented itself I learned how to create my own jewelry using beautiful gemstones. I love laying out the design and choosing just the right gemstones for color and balance. My thought is that you wear not just a piece of jewelry, but a piece of the earth and it's natural beauty.
After 35 years my husband and I recently moved and enjoy living in the country again, and seeing all the wildlife that stop by for an occasional visit. Watching all types of birds including Bald Eagles, Osprey, Herons, Egrets, and Sandpipers, and also Deer, Coyotes and wild Boar has given me the urge to pick up the paint brushes again. I have worked in oil, acrylics, and watercolor. I currently have a watercolor in progress and happened on this site as I searched the web for refresher videos. I look forward to meeting other artists and sharing support and ideas.
