Pictures Wanted of British Stiles

Hope this is the right area..

I've always wanted to do a series of British stiles, Styles of Stiles, maybe 4 who knows, so would appreciate some copyright free pics of British stiles. There aren't any in the reference library that I could find, lots on line, but really shouldn't use them without permission I guess.

So, any pictures would be very much appreciated.

cheers

I know that in one sense a stile is a vertical portion of a window and/or door frame/panel.

Yes, that's what I mean, a British stile (not style) Terry Harrison does them, this is one.

Stiles are like small step ladders over fences....useful for humans but not animals. There are some in a forest not far from me. They're quite useful.

Kathy, google fence stiles and then look at the Images page. If you see something you really like, send an email message to the photographer for permission to use the image. The chances are excellent that you'll be granted it...

Re: Pictures Wanted of British Stiles

Not a clear photo, but here's a typical Dales stile. Usually consists of a narrow gap in the wall too narrow to let a sheep through. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45704

Re: Pictures Wanted of British Stiles

Hi Scribblet,

I used to see those style of stiles all around the NorthEast and then in North Yorkshire when I lived there.

I now live down in Cornwall, but you dont see them here, instead they have Cornish hedges... a bit like a drystone wall with backfilled soil and a green hedge growing over it.

These have there own type of stone stile built into them....theres a few out the back of our house....if you fancy a pic let me know.

Cheers,

Adam

Re: Pictures Wanted of British Stiles

Yes Ilike stiles as well...............somewhere I have some drawings but heaven knows where.....around here they tend to be small stepover fixtures but once you get into the Western Dales they become engineering projects....

Like this...

Sori it's so small!

Re: Pictures Wanted of British Stiles

I did a search of Geograph.org.uk for stile and found dozens of photos. Hope the link works for you. The pictures may be copyright but you can contact the photographer, and many are Creative Commons.
