Post portrait of Tony in a white shirt

Ok! Let's get this photography section going. : )

Here's a picture I took of a friend. I stood on a short ladder and used the blue walls of my bedroom for the backdrop. For lighting, I used the sunlight on his right and a cheap ikea halogen lamp on his left (viewer's right). I think I might have used the onboard light on the camera as a fill flash, but I don't recall (oops!). The camera is an olympus 2020z, a digital camera. I played with the color balance and contrast a bit in Paint Shop pro, but didn't retouch the photo overall. I wonder how this looks on all the monitors out there...I'm sure they all are set differently...Let me know what you think.

Seems to be a hot spot. Other than that the color is good on my monitor. I notice you post a small image at 300 dpi instead of a larger image at 72. I always have a problem with the image quality/file size. Is this your standard setting for online or is it set up to be printed...?

Only other thing, and this is just my opinion; the crop is right at the wrists, perhaps you should have included the hands even though they seem to be in his pockets. How a person positions (in this case, hides) their hands can help express their personality.

I can see already, I am going to learn a lot in this forum. If I had taken this shot I would have cropped it just below the shoulders, or made it full figure I think. I am not a pro photograper by any stretch of the imagination... just my own way of looking at this. I like the clarity and what will you do with this next? Carol

Thanks for the info. I have tons of different pics of tony if you want to see them as a discussion topic. Since I just started doing these there would be plenty of comments possible on them all!

One note: the pic I posted looks very dark on my computer at home and very crisp and well balanced on my work's computer! I've seen sites on calibrating your monitor before, has anybody got an address to one of those? Thanks.
