1st pencil to paper for 10 years or more

Hello .. this is my 1st proper post to the forum, and this tree is my 1st attempt at any kind of real art drawing for 10 years or more... so i'm quite suprised that i can still do it and make it recognisable!! Of course its not finished yet... i will post in stages. I was never taught to create a picture in layers so i think i'm going to get into trouble sooner or later with them. I only ever was taught art at school, and in those days no body seemed to take it seriously. I apologise for the bad quality of the upload.. it was scanned in and its not very clear.
Any comments, critique etc is welcome and can someone please point me in the direction of some online tutorials about layering paintings and coloured/graphite pencils drawings

Hello catnapper .. welcome to WC.

Unfortunately most people still do not take graphite art seriously. That's one reason so few professional artists specialize in graphite or charcoal. Oh well .. that's the public for you ... what to they know anyway!

I stopped drawing for a couple years but found it all came back with a little practice so I'm sure you will find the same. We sort of specialize here in teaching or explaining how to work graphite to its best which means working in layers if you want to lean towards realism. Looks like you have a good start here ... let us know if you run into trouble with things. And if you continue posting updates we'll probably see where you could improve and how best to do so.
