Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
I have been busy in my studio trying to sort and organize and integrate pastels and honestly, I have too many!!! It is just ridiculous how many sticks of pastel I have - it would take me decades to use it all. Just sorting through everything is overwhelming. So, just before I posted this, I saw the post about the Roche pastels on ebay, and yes, I had a look!!! I am INSANE!!! Please, if anyone sees me talk about buying any pastels on this site, SLAP ME!!!

Re: Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
Oh Lynn I can relate just now. I spent the last week looking over pastels retailers trying to decide what to buy and ended up ordering 3 sets (Ludwig Essential Grays and Vibrants and Girault Warm & Cool) and added 140 pastels to my collection. And I'm just getting started with pastels over the last year, so I can just imagine who bad things will get in a few years. They are addictive! At least their not cigarettes, alcohol or any other harmful substance.
Maybe someone should pull out the big stick for me too. lol

Donate them to a good cause, like... me!
Honestly, I have too many already. Isn't it funny how first one thinks the sandpapers *eat* sticks at a frightening rate, and then the sticks still last "forever"?
I'm pretty sure I will never have to buy another dark stick, ever.
And if that complete set of Roché is only slightly used, it *is* a bargain!

I still can't imagine having TOO MANY pastels! Of course, I don't own anywhere near a full set of anything yet, apart from F-C's pastel pencils, and I wish they had more darks!

Re: Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
Oh Lynn, I am right there with you. I just ordered a Girault color chart from Dakota (its backordered) so I can compare the colors I already have with the ones I want, so I can buy some from a friend who has so many he can't even keep track of them and wants to get rid of some.
And I have so many already, I don't even use all of the ones I have.
Here goes another thread for all the art supply addicts out here in WC land.

Judy and Lynn
maybe instead of 'single malt', you could offer five pastels as an incentive to get your studio clean.......

Re: Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
hello
this is one of my 4 pastels boxes (90cmX90), in which there must be at least a thousand stiks in each, apart from oils pastels, I'm more reasonable about the latters
I'm still looking for pastels almost everyday on the internet. I must be "pastels compulsive"
where's the slapping smilie ?

Re: Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
OK, we have a new winner!! Lumiere you get the prize!!! But I am running a REALLY close second because I think my cookie sheets hold more pastels than your trays. Plus, there is that full set of Sennies in the second drawer ... I'd give you the slapping smile, but I don't know how to do that. So, consider yourself slapped!
Blue ... I don't keep scotch in the house since we don't really drink anything but wine and beer. Now, my wonderful hubby has some fabulous Belgium (triples and quads) beers that are, to him, quite yummy and to me, quite expensive. Perhaps that would do for some. I have been known to purchase a bottle or two of a wine from some place called Chateau Neuf de Pop (sp?) which was lovely, and I really could add some sticks of pastel to that. I have some doubles of TL's and MV's.
Judy - we really should get together. I have a much more flexible schedule now that my Mom has passed. Still trying to get my life together after all of that as well as my studio. If you are looking for a class, I'm taking one from Kathleen Newman at the Old Town Art Triangle on Wed. 10 - 1. It's a good class! Parking can be a bear though.
Charlie, I have seriously thought about donating some of these. I will keep you first on my list, although shipping and tax fees into Sweden would probably make that one expensive endeavor. I purchased toys for some of our cousin's children in the Netherlands and sent them over via UPS some years ago. The shipping cost as much as the presents, and then our family had to PAY to get the packages!!! I was embarrassed at my own ignorance about what would happen in Holland, and also that our family had to pay to get the gifts that I sent. They were supposed to be thank you gifts!!! Anyway, the children loved them :-)
Dru - I'm working on that!! I can't paint when I can't find stuff. I have 4 years of running out to workshops and coming back and throwing stuff in my studio, rinse and repeat, and adding about 1000 more sticks of pastel, and it is just a horrible jumble in there. I need some order, some serenity in there so I can think. But that is the goal - time spent in my studio every day - PAINTING!!!

Re: Yes, You CAN Have Too Many Pastels!!!
Lumière wins! (But Donna Aldridge (forgive spelling) has some 7 thousand or more...)
Lynn, that's the reason we avoid buying from the US, and stick to European brands when we can. Doubling the cost isn't worth it.
