Stuff I See (around here)

Hey Guys!

I'm new around here. New to art. New to it all! I've been lurking around a few of the WC forums and settled in to the watercolor forums, pen & ink, and this one. I put in a coupla sketches on the P & I monthly project and was encouraged by the encouragement(!) I got over there. So I decided to start putting a journal type thingie over here. This one is a 3.5 x 5.5 cheapie I got on sale at Staples. I've been using a Sakura Koi 24 set and Prismacolor 005 pens. As the title sez.....this will be simple sketches of things from my area on the East Coast of Florida.

C&C welcome as I'm here to learn!

Thanks.

DougN

Hi Doug and welcome. So glad you feel comfortable enough to share your journal with us. I really like your seagull. Did you do this from life or a ref? I like the effect of the wc in the bg. Look forward to seeing more from you soon.

welcome, Doug. Nice seagull and I like the way you left the white in the water as it looks like it sparkles.

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Thanks Jacqui and Rainy!

That was from a picture that I took with my POS P&S! I am not really confident enough to be sketching out in public yet. Except my back yard!
But, of course, being near the coast Sea Gulls are all over the place.

Here is the next sketch. Surprize! It's another Sea Gull!

I really like your second gull, he has the "gull thieving" cheeky look in his eye. Watch out for your lunch. Nice heron too.

<<Groan...>>> Oh yep, sorry to say, I do remember that (?)tune....... <<sigh>>

On a more positive note, this Pelican sketch is just wonderful!!! You've captured the textures of water and feathers so well.

Thanks for sharing,
Maryhawk

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Great bird sketches. I especially like the last one. . . the feathers are lovely and the effect of the water appears almost like a resist? How did you get that effect. Very effective!! Nice work.

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Hey Guys, Thanks for stopping by.Even though I rarely comment, I look at all of your stuff every day.

Rainy, What you are seeing is Expert Technique....NOT! It is a quirk of that cheap journal. It does tend to resist at first. Good Eye! I'm trying to use it to my advantage.
