All Craft Kiln

I was given an "All Craft" kiln. It's a smallish kiln. It was purchased in the '70's. It has a knob with settings for on, low, med, and high. It has what looks like a thermometer or temp gauge on top. It has a "peep" hole with a cover thingy in the door. The plate on it says All Craft Tool and Supply Co, Hicksville, NY 11801. It's 110 volts 15 amp. model 86E. My friend used it for enammeling back in the day. Can anyone provide me any insight? I'd like to start using it. Maybe I'll just try to play around wth it a little. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't see how you could run a proper annealing cycle as you would have no way to control the temperature drop & hold cycles.

I have a tiny enameling kiln, and they just dont work for properly annealing glass.

I'm thinking I may have to babysit it. Keep an eye on it. I plan to run it to see where High takes me and how long it takes to get there. Then turn it down and keep track of what temps are where on the knob. So when I plan to anneal I can set it for what temp I want and then lower it a bit each hour or 1/2 hour. I need to read up on annealing schedules. I'm lead to believe that If the kiln is a brick lined kiln - like this one. When you put the last bead in you can turn it off and it will cool slow enough to anneal properly. Am I on track or way off? It's really not that small. My beads will fit in on the mandrels.

You can always buy an add on controller. It will work with any kiln.

WE have this Art Craft Kiln and just started using it for PMClay. We needed to turn it down to keep it at the temp required. don't think there is a place to put in a control thingy.
