Wood Grain/texture
I saw somewhere that a lady or gent (not sure) had a classroom on rendering wood grain in CP's. I think the name was Chook Brown. Could someone give me a link. I would be so grateful. Thanks a lot.

Marie. Thanks a lot but I cannot get into that link - seems to have expired or something. What is her actual name? Perhaps I could pick up her threads or posts.
Elaine, thanks for taking the trouble to post the links. I am looking for something a little more delicate and detailed but really appreciate the effort.
You folk are always so ready to help.

Re: Wood Grain/texture
I do a lot of wood floors, lol! The "trick" for me to doing woodgrain is to use a dark brown, sharp point, and put in the woodgrain as my second layer on the wood. Then I layer the lighter browns over the top of that. If I wait til later to add the woodgrains, they look fakey to me.

Re: Wood Grain/texture
Hi Robin, Thanks. That was my idea too. Rather to start óff with the darker grains and then layer the lighter shades on top. I like your wooden bases a lot but a little different to my style. Wish I could be more painterly like you. Oh! well, I guess it would be a boring world if we all painted in the same way!!

Yep! The nice thing about how this forum evolved is that there is now room for all styles and techniques.

Re: Wood Grain/texture
Just in case you would like some further work for comparison -I have a very special friend who used to post regularly on this forum who did a spectacular piece featuring wood grain in all its glory.
Her name on this forum is frida -real name Raquel. I'm sorry I dont know how to link but the piece I am referring to shows a pretty good WIP. I think she is also in the library. Sorry I cant link to it.

Re: Wood Grain/texture
I think the person you might be looking for is Lee Hammond..I saw a book of hers/his at a shop the other day and she had a section on woodgrain. Maybe if you google her...don't know if she was ever on wet canvas.
