How many of you paint with music playing?

I recently started listening to music when I paint. I don't know why I never did before but I find it keeps my mind from wandering and helps me focus. How many of you listen to music while you paint?

Ipod is my bestest friend ..... I never leave home without it and yes I wear it while studio painting or at Life Drawing most nights , not so much at school when IM being tutored as I tend to think its rude to my teachers who are trying to teach and I tend to listen to their every word even when they explaining how things are to other students .... basically yes music and art are for me equal they go together ....

Yes, they are a good marriage, you can paint the chords and rhythm.

I love music and listen to many kinds, often classical, but I find it distracts me when I paint! I was really surprised, because I know certain classical can help improve concentration.

Audiobooks on the iPod. I reserve the more challenging reading for before bedtime, but while painting I love to listen to my favorite books, as well as old radio plays and BBC dramatizations.

Alan P, Similar to you I also listen to words, not audio books but my computer's voice reading aloud Wetcanvas threads to me. It's a robot voice. I enjoy listening to the forum threads, helps me get enthusiastic.

I actually only listen to music when I am in someone else's studio for painting in a group situation. Then I find I like Adele, or Zee Avi type vocals. I find classical music "annoys" me for some reason, strange!? I never listen to music at home as I am a TV and movie buff, so they are on instead. I like the human voice telling me a story.

I always paint with music. Never paint without it. Sometimes I look at painting as a good excuse to listen to music.

That is funny I stopped doing it. I actualy cannot hear anything when I am in the zone. Music had a tendency to keep me outside of the zone. While painting my brain is full on painting.

Re: How many of you paint with music playing?

I can't "work" listening to music, but love to paint with music on. It has to be background music, though. I get very focused into the painting I'm working on and distractions of any kind break that focus. I love music. I'm just selective about what's playing when I'm painting.

I just push the paint around while the painting pushes me.

Re: How many of you paint with music playing?

While I enjoy a variety of music, I lose all track of time, meals, telephone or doorbells when I am working on a painting. Getting on a roll while painting is a great place to be but even favorite music becomes a distraction to me when I am lost in what I am doing.

Re: How many of you paint with music playing?

I started sketching at concerts but have now stoped as it distracts from the music, A good performance reduces me to tears from the emotions within the music, if I distract myself with other thoughts the magic of the concert is lost. Likewise I don’t listen to music while painting, drawing or doing any other activity I enjoy.
