Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
No Geoff.
Disorganized day here. Slept in until 7am ... Then spent two hours having coffees. Such is the weekend. Roger stayed home and did some lazy gardening tinkering which he needed after his week and I went down for a haircut. Normally I get that sort of thing over with on Fridays but couldnt get an appointment. OK I left it too late in the week. Mea culpa. They were running late and I was almost ready to go home with the current overgrown look and take out the shears and do it myself. Anyways lovely Yorkshire hairdresser had her way with my locks. I was shorn.
Got home to mist and showers. We both bravely decided to go out late afternoon when the rain had stopped and clear the front fernery which had been overcome with Tahitian wedding veil. A pretty creeper but rather rampant here. Suitably attired of course. Leeches are out in force again. The area has been swept and blown and washed and is sort of drying before we move the pot plants back in tomorrow.
So sum total of the day equals ??? But I have a haircut

Annie, Judy wants an explanation of the Dumbo Ears she just inherited..
 Enjoy your guests Geoff.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDYL
Me, I did nothing all day. I rested my arm, foot (except to go down stairs to open the front door to let the sunshine in this morning, and close it again against the cool air this evening), and ate icecream.
I did start sorting through, my Carnarvon photos. Oh man, what a task. Never again. I am taking my tablet with me next time and uploading each days photos into their own folder. Right now I am moving them all into separate folders, so I can upload each walk, one at a time.
Here is a photo of my arm today. Darn thing is still paining me. I did take Gails advice, and changed my Dr's appointment to Monday.
Gail I damaged my ankle too, when I fell. It was quite swollen and very painful. I have been icing it, but hard to keep off it with an active 11 year old here all week. :-) It is still a bit bumpy, but getting better. I might mention it too, to the Dr, but I don't think it is anything serious. Mind you, I didn't think my arm was serious either.
Later.....................

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Good Morning all,
It is quarter to five in the a.m. here in still sleeping Oakwood. Temps are normal for this time of year.
I need to think about getting things like lettuce in the garden. Gail, we are working on getting a fence up around the section where we will put our tomato plants. Don't really need it anywhere else (we have a chicken wire one up to keep the rabbits out). Still trying to figure out how to run the netting over the top of the stakes though. I like to stake my tomatoes up, so they get pretty tall.
I've got the background in my painting of the chef, so today I'll mix up a skin tone and make him look less like a ghost.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDY!!!! Hope it was a really happy one.
JJ, Your arm is turning so many interesting shades of purple. Glad you will be seeing the doctor on Monday. Since you are going to be there, I think you should mention your ankle as well.
Gail, on making it downstairs on your own and strolling around the yard.
Annie, I always like the feeling after a hair cut. Of course, I don't have as much hair to worry about as you do anymore.
Hope Doug and Ruth have a safe and easy journey home today.
Geoff, Have fun with your guests.
to all who are on their way.
SYL,
Sylvia

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Good evening ladies and gentleman
another fabulous day here in Paradise Just can't believe this heat at this time of the year, but I'll take it all!
Thinking of Doug and Ruth winging their way through the skies......they might bring back the good weather Geoff.
JJ, it is not JudyL's birthday, she just said that she was born on the 13th of the month, and that month, according to her profile page, is January
Looks as if you've laid your arm on a wet painting! ouch
Your specs look exactly the same as mine!
Judy, the dumbo ears were first awarded to Annie, because she started the Wash when someone else had already started it, and so they are now passed around whenever anyone else does the same
Back to watching rugby and drawing. Funny how I can do both at the same time lol Now if it was the All Blacks playing that would not be possible

Oh Why does it say April 14th on her FB? Sorry Judy..
I just read that Robin Gibbs of the BeeGee's is in hospital with no chance of recovery. Colon cancer. I loved the BeeGee's music!! (......the brothers won lasting fame by writing the soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever, including their huge international hit Stayin' Alive.) I didn't realise that..

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Good Day Washers
Almost 6:30 a.m. here and 1 C. We are expecting a lovely warm day with rain starting late afternoon or early evening . Too early to tell if we have blue skies or not.
I am downstairs on my own again. I do love my quiet hour before Pearl and Dan start their day. Liam asked when he could come and see me the other night and I told him possibly this weekend... I think perhaps today will be the day.
Sylvia, re: your fence. I really do suggest you fence the entire veggie garden. By the time you take into consideratiion the space you need for weeding around each tomatoe plant and the walking space to move around comfortably and some type of door to enter it it doesn't make sense to just fence the tomatoes. Because the poultry fencing at the top is loose the squirrels and racoons do not like to climb it I have found no need to net the top. I do net the strawberry section and you may want to net it closer to harvest. I purchase a package of the bird netting that is used to cover fruit trees ( under $10. ) and place it over the top of the fencing letting it fall down the sides a good 6 - 8 inches and clothes peg the netting to the top of the fencing with a sturdy wooden clothspeg. Becasue the netting has lots of spring in it and the fence is close to 5 feet in height it is easy to move around in the enclosure during the time frame you need to have the entire fecing covered.
I need to top up my coffee and move around for a bit. Be back soon.
Cheers,
Gail

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Hi all washers and especially all cat-loves!
Ysterday I mentioned the little schnauzer-pup we have in day-care. Today we also have a little kitten that we have to bottle-feed. She has opened her eyes so she is probably about 10 days old, and since she is 4-colored it must be a "she". The last cat we had was probably eaten by a huge Rock Python in the Nature Reserve.
Just a very quiet Saturday here, summer is over, just +23C expected and just +10C for the night and early morning, which means that it's quite cold when you get out of bed, as we have no indoor heating, and no insulation in the house walls. But one very positive aspect of autumn and winter in the Lowveld is that it's almost every day a clear blue sky and at least midday quite comfortable temperature and very low humidity.
I have been watching rugby this morning, my favorite team the Stormers from Cape Town were defeated by the NZ Crusaiders in a very nice game. Then I watched a lot of Haka clips on Youtube... I have always been fascinated by the Haka especially after seeing that cultural feature live in the Polynesian Islands.
Have a nice day all,
Tommy

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Hi again,
Gail,
My garden is the square foot kind. You don't walk through it like a regular garden, it is just deep enough to plant four squares across. You reach in from the sides to harvest and weed. about the squirrels not liking to climb the loose fence...I haven't seen anything that intimidates the squirrels around here.
Tommy,
That is such a young little miss kitty. Look at her tiny paws. Is she an orphan?
Will you be keeping her as a pet or just long enough to get her ready for adoption by someone else???
Time to get the coffee on and the eggs in the pot. We're having organic soft boiled eggs with toast soldiers this morning.
SYL,
Sylvia

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
 everyone,
This will be a quick dash through this morning. Just heading out the door to pick up snacks and lunches at Tim Horton's before heading for the workshop.
It is supposed to rain today but I got a lot of the lawn raked. Brian is supposed to finish the back yard before the rain hits. It's just 1 C outside right now.
Tommy - I can't believe you have no heating or insulation in the walls. Even our outdoor shed has insulation and heating if needed (previous owners used it as a greenhouse to start plants. Cute kitten. Are you going to keep her?
JJ - good thing you got that doctors appointment coming. The bruising doesn't look too bad to me but the elbow looks swollen.
They teach CPR using the song staying alive. The tempo is how fast you are supposed to do chest compressions. I have that going through my head a lot.
Gotta run. Have a great weekend everyone.

Re: **Daily Wash Saturday 14th April 2012**
Good morning! We have a cloudy start to the day that will bring rain showers later on... I'm ok with that as we really do need it... and, my heart and prayers are with those in the path of the severe weather South of us... it's predicted to be nasty and dangerous!
Ted finished the lawn and came with Matt and I to town yesterday... We bought a new console to replace the one that was stolen in our van. Then we stopped at A&W for burgers... not my favourite... then we stopped by the Galaxy theatre to buy our tickets for the Titanic movie in 3D... we'll all be seeing it tonight along with some friends... The 100th Anniversary of Titanic's sinking is tomorrow.
We stopped by Michaels because I had all these 40% coupons in my hand... I bought an India ink pen.
So... I hope that Doug and Ruth are enjoying an uneventful flight home...
Hi Geoff... I missed that you had house guests... I hope the rain stops so that you can take them to the Market.
Annie... it sounds to me like you had a terrific day... kind of slow and easy, opposite of your frenetic work week...
JJ... that's a nasty photo of your nasty looking arm... I'm a BeeGee fan... so sorry to read about Robin Gibbs' illness...
Syl... it's a tad early for us to be planting lettuce, but I've been craving something nice and fresh... maybe we'll get some in the ground... the worse that can happen is that it'll get frozen off...
And what are you drawing, Lulu?
Gail, like you, I really enjoy that hour in the morning before anyone else is up and moving... I'm sure that Liam has missed you and he's probably worried, so a short visit is a great idea!
Awh... sweet baby Calico, Tommy... is she an orphan?
Have fun at your workshop, Ellen! Even if it is toxic, smelly, yucky oils... How appropo that "Stayin' Alive" is taught to help people stay alive...
I can hear Ted moving around upstairs... I think I'll pour the coffee... I hope everyone has the very best possible day...
