Re: Image Uploads
The site seems to be running a little slow and is behaving a little glitchy right now. I tried uploading two images. It took one, but wouldn't automatically resize the image that was too big. Is that the message you are getting when you get the Error message? Just wait it out. Nothing to be done.

Re: Image Uploads
Hmm lets try:
Works for me. It could be a problem with the filename. Check for illegal characters.

Re: Image Uploads
Ange--
as Elaine noted, the automatic resizing WC usually does if an image is too large doesn't always work.
Sometimes, what WC thinks is too big isn't, but there's no arguing with a machine. So when you're getting your image ready to upload, instead of making it 800 pixels wide or tall, maybe aim for 700 pixels for your longest side. Also, make sure your dpi/ppi is set to no more than 72. If the software you're using lets you chose the quality of your jpg (like photoshop will), instead of going for "maximum" quality, maybe go for a step lesser like "high". This will help reduce the file size (but not the image size) and help you avoid WC thinking it needs to do something to your image.
I also noticed in your thread you used the attachment feature (paperclip below the text box) not the uploader (mountain pic above the text box). If one is giving you fits, try the other.
Hope this helps some.

Re: Image Uploads
I am laughing at myself. I had no idea (but didnt really think about it) that upping the dpi increased the file size. Had I thought about it for a second I would have realized that lol. My problem and prehaps it's my camera, but all my images look foggy and the quality of the piece does not come through. It is frustrating, so I went to my paint shop pro and upped the dpi. I will not do that in the future, but how do you get the fuzzy look from happening. I know some folks scan but some of the pieces I have done are to large for a scanner (anyway mine)

Re: Image Uploads
If you have Paint Shop Pro you can create a simple script to resize your picture to 800 pixels wide then save it with the JPEG Optimeizer. This will get your file below 100k every time.
This is what I do - open a photo then click my "Save for wetcanvas" script and save the image in a separate web images folder.

Re: Image Uploads
Clydeine--
Upping the dpi *will* increase the file size. But.
That won't really fix your clarity issues-- your image editing software will *guess* at what the image should look like. Which means sometimes your fuzzy issue isn't really fixed, and might even be worsened. The best thing to do is to photograph at a higher dpi (300 dpi is great for printing) and then use your software to resize. Most monitors don't display in any higher resolution than 72. So resize it to 72 and fix the dimensions to something reasonable (like 800 pixels on the longest side). As long as you didn't jiggle the camera, your image will probably be nice and clear.
So check your camera settings. You might also want to check if the camera is trying to use a low-light setting. If it is, it's leaving the shutter open & that can cause blurriness. And if shaky hands are part of the problem (it is for me!), then investing in a tripod is a *great* idea.
Cool idea, Doug!
I haven't used paintshop in years... but I'm pretty sure you can automate things like that in photoshop, too. Don't ask me how, though... my ps skills are wobbly. At best.

Re: Image Uploads
Couldn't be simpler to create a script in psp.
You make sure the script palette is visible in the toolbar, open your picture then click the record button. Then carry out the operations, in this case resize 800 pixels wide, then save Jpeg Optimiser then save your script with a suitable name e.g "resize wetcanvas".
This then becomes a script in the script menu which you can click to resize and compress your pictures. You can even choose 600 pixels high if you have a portrait photo so that it is all visible without having to scroll.
Here are a few of the scripts that I have to automate operations:
