Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

Progression just for fun...

I have a croc eye that I want to do that is quite detailed and the eye quite complicated. I thought I would practise a large eye today... not really interested in the rest of it much, just filled it about a bit and wasn't really very happy with anything but the actual eye.

Stated on the back of a piece of water color paper cold press BUT, you can see the divits of color deposted and I wanted a smoother look so I switched to strathmore medium

Thats pale sage PM1089 Prismacolor (PM)

Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

Layer of VERT Pale PC 920 over that... wanted the eye to look clear like glass so not too much layer or it will loose that look. And OOPS forgot the yellow band around the iris so out with the eraser. Char Mose PC 1004 with a nice bright yellow layered on top of that

Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

Next

Smear in the eye shine with prisma white.. edging into the color little by little into the green to make it smooth.. start filling in the cool little specs and lines, some were lighter than others so I used two grays as I mentioned

Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

Next ... it took me a couple of tries to get the shadowing around the actual eyeball right. I had it too dark, so I took the Vert Pale PM920 over the too dark shadow, then that demolished the dotting in that area, re-shadowed it a bit lighter than put my dots and lines back into the re-shadowed area. Started on the membrane

Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

Thanks Marie and for taking a LOOK.

More fudging about to make a bit of an outer eye Beige PC something and Sahie for highlight on the Beige PC 940. Using both grays. Lots of mushing down color on top of things, throw in some spots and mush them down.

Re: Quick Croc Eye Sketch

The outer eye wasn't so grand for a while and I didn't feel like putting a huge amount of time in... So I just smeared The Beige in over top of the dismal scaling and turned it into a more detailed eyeball lining (put some spots in, mushed those down with the beige again to make 'em look a little smeary) Technically the eye ball should have been enlarged a bit bigger but was hoping no one would really notice .

And then for the final trick, it looked kind of stupid till I turned the whole thing upside down at the last minute. Then I went back and turned all my progresson shots upside down so hopefully you wouldn't be the wiser... This was easier than erasing and re doing and I wasn't in the mood. Don't tell anybody ok?

This last shot I managed to get photographed in the sun. My boyfriend is supposed to be getting me a better camera. Over cast doesn't work with this camera so that's why so many pics were blurry

It actually looks a little better than this in reality and it's shown here a tiny bit smaller than it actually is. Looks better smaller on the Flaw Magnifier
