Monthly CP Challenge - April 2012
Rules for the Monthly CP Challenge
1) Use one or more of the ref photos posted at the beginning of the Challenge thread. Feel free to adapt the refs to suit your creativity & imagination. Change the crop, add, subtract, combine them, etc.!
2) State which ref you are using & credit the photographer in your first post.
3) Please list the size of your piece, type of support (stonehenge, watercolor paper, colorfix, etc.), and type of pencils you are using. If you are using watersoluble pencils, please let us know if you are using them wet or dry.
4) Mixed media is ok, but because this is the cp forum, colored pencil should be the dominant medium used in your piece.
5) If you would like help along the way, please post your work as wip's (work in progress) in this thread. This is especially helpful if you're new to cp. It's always easier to change things early on! If there is something specific you want help with, Ask! What's bothering you may not be obvious to everyone else.
6) The Monthly CP Challenge threads will remain open for six months. You may post your work in the appropriate monthly challenge thread as long as it is open, even if a new challenge has begun. The current challenge will be stickied at the top of the forum.
7) There are no experts here! Some participants may have more experience with cp than others, but everyone is here to learn. Feel free to experiment, branch out, and push your boundaries. Of course, the most important thing: Have Fun!
And here are your new refs! As always, larger versions available in the RIL. Just follow the links.

Extra Challenge!
Yes, we've done this before... but we've got some newbies who may not have tried this yet. It's a great exercise because white is hardly ever actually white. So here's the challenge: Render the following image without using *any* grey pencils. You'll need to use complimentary colors to achieve your greys. Take your time, remember test swatches are your best friends, and enjoy the experimenting!

Good Luck!

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - April 2012
i had to come back a few times when I saw the first ref as I've only just doen that ref this week when Crispur2005 used it for the WDE!!! I thought I was on the wrong thread lol
i have so much on - not to mention 4 portraits of OH's neices I've dropped my self into before June and other projects I want to finish but I'll try to get something doen if I can. i've snagged a couple of refs.
btw I dont' see any greys in those eggs - mostly oranges and blues....

I really enjoyed the photos this month! Thank you! I may tackle another one, once I'm done playing with the other challenges this month.
Prismacolor on AquaBee drawing paper 93lb. Image 4"x 7"
I now wish I had started on a darker paper, struggling with the white dots and the blue speckle-cast on the car. For some reason most appear longitudinally shaped even though I tried to widen and change their shape. Not sure if/how to fix. C&C welcome.

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - April 2012
You get the super-speedy award, Jess!
As far as ways to change the shape of the splotches-- do you have a kneaded eraser or poster putty handy? If you do, try to lift the edges you aren't happy with (dab, don't drag) and re-work. Poster putty works better than a kneaded eraser, but either will do. Some folks will swear you need to use Blu-Tac poster putty. It isn't sold near me so I use what I can find easily. Because you're lifting the pigment, you can take up lots or just a little. It may be just the thing to help re-shape those areas.
If you make changes, I hope you'll repost!

 Thanks Rosemary for nice photos.
Here is my take on Blue by Moni26, I'm a beginner and this is my second drawing in cp, would appreciate any suggestions for improvement. used fabercastle watercolor pencils and had fun, image size is 6x6".
Thanks for looking and C&C welcome.

Hi Marriam, this looks like a very promising start. I'd suggest adding more layers of color to deepen the color- espeically in the darker area. That'll also give a better sense of depth.
