I started painting with oils in the mid-1960's and have moved to acrylics and water colours in the 1970's and am starting to dabble in gouache doing my first with a bit of scratchboard technique thrown in for good measure. I also work in lacquers and water-based paints with the airbrush as well as pencil crayon by itself or with mixed media. I dabble in carving also, mostly wood but antlers as well as some sculpture of a variety of materials. Just retired two years ago and am finding more time over the winter for my art.

Thanks Kathie! I'm not happy with the pictures I have of it, so I'm going to take more tonight, but it's finished!
Love how your French Horn is turning out. I played the French Horn when I was in middle school. It's looking great!

Thank you Jon. Yes, it is. Something I picked up from Thomas Kinkade. It's on all my paintings.

Re: What's on Your Easel: April 2012
Spencer, That was quite a shock to hear of Kinkade's recent death.
Kathie, Thank you for the compliments. I've been browsing your animal paintings and like what you are doing. I've just started doing some work with goauche and scratchboard and hope to do a few practice pieces with small boards, probably animal related also. I'm also looking forward to seeing the completed french horn. It is looking excellent. I like the idea of the metalic paint application.

Re: What's on Your Easel: April 2012
A lot has happened here since my last visit. I'll see if I can catch up.
Barbara, your portrait looks really good. I like it!
Howard, I like your abstracts a lot and I'm fascinated by your process.
Steve, that Ferarri is another winner. Stunning!
Andre, great colors and a lovely, peaceful scene!
Blackwater, you've peaked my curiosity. I'm wondering where this is going. Interesting.
Kathie, your French Horn is wonderful. Your colors and contrasts between light and dark are beautiful! Your work is so masterful it's hard to believe you've only been painting 4 years.
Spencer, terrific finish!! The contrast between the deep red of the tractor and the sparkling green grass is eye-catching.
I've finally finished my cliff scene and wrung every possible learning experience out of it I possibly could. I re-did the lower third of the painting several times and significantly changed it from the reference. The sky is actually more golden than the way it looks on screen. I'm more proud of the learning than of the painting. It's 11 x 14 on #300 Arches CP paper.
This next one is not finished but I think I know where I'm going with it. It's also on 11 x 14 #300 CP paper and I used some techniques from Nancy Reyner along the way.
I'm open to suggestions and comments. That's part of my learning process. Thanks!

Finished my Tulips, and sold it the next day! Crazy. Only my second sale, so pretty exciting. Maybe I need to post here more often, brings me good luck?
Andre...wow...that completely draws me in, your style is wonderful.

Re: What's on Your Easel: April 2012
This is my progress since returning from spring break. A couple of hours last night. I'm just putting in the background on the top half of the board and taking a break from the rocks on the bottom half.
