Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge APRIL - Scien Fiction Movies & TV Shows!
I am a geek when it comes to science fiction shows. I have watched LOTS of them, but my favorites are the classics of Star Trek,Star Wars, and Stargate SG-1. For this challenge simply create something inspired by any show you like! Any scifi series, past or present, is fair game: Farscape, Dr. Who, Twilight Zone, Farscape, Star Trek, Stargate, Clone Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Babylon 5, The "V"s, The 4400, Star Wars, Avatar, The Event, The X Files, Being Human, ... well you get the point! The list is endless.
This is an activity thread for artists of all experience levels, and that work in any medium. Being traditional painting, drawing, or digital art. Since this is a group activity, we can pool our knowledge and resources, and grow as artists in a fun, no-pressure atmosphere. No critiques unless specifically asked for. Please, no harsh critique! The intent is to have fun, try new things, and experiment.
I look forward to seeing your work!

Great topic for the challenge Maria. And great choice with Kirk, Spock and O'Neill. Love them too. I am a sci fi geek too, just so many awesome choices available. I'll have to make some time for this one.

Superb challenge, Maria!! Love it, love it. And your Star Trek characters are all so recognizable.
I want to post some of the bookmarks I made based on Star War animals.
Faber Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils on Mi-Tientes paper with Uniball ink roll pen for outlines. The textured surface on either side of Mi-Tientes is not good for colored pencils unless you like a pebbled look.
Here's one of Huts from Star Wars.
Stonehenge Black paper around 7x7 inch
Caran D'Ache Luminance, Derwent Graphitint and Prismacolor color pencil.
Holbein gouache on some parts of the head for testing.
Basically, I think I could easily use Luminance colored pencils for all black paper work. Having said that, the Graphitint provides a darker shade but it's so hard it left indentation. Prisma is even softer than Caran D'ache and it's all the blues that you see in this piece. I think Stonehenge and Prisma is made for each other.
Darth Talon from Star Wars but I designed her looks, her posture and her expression, body tattoos and garment and colors. It's my own Darth Talon!
Daniel Smith watercolor
Chinese brush and ink
Caran D'Ache Luminance pencils
Michael's cheap watercolor 9x12 inch 90 lb
And three incredible hulks which I have posted before at this section but for comic books. I'll start new ones today.

Here are a couple of Stargate paintings I did a while back. They are oil on canvas. On is the Stargate itself, and the other one is from the episode 1969 when they go through Amarillo Texas. If you have seen Stargate, you probably know the episode!

Maria, I have not watched Stargate but your colors on the van is so fun. The tire image is really very apt for a sci fi story.
This was a very mangled piece of watercolor sky and I overpainted it with Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 first, then Caran D'ache Neocolor II, and then for the background, some cheap powdery Michael's pan watercolor.
Stillman and Alpha 100 lb 5.5 x 8.5 hardbound sketchbook
I watched the trailer of the Rise of the planet of the apes. I'll get it next Sunday for a cheaper rental price.
This one is General's woodless pencil 2B and when it couldn't get any darker, General's charcoal stick.

Sandra those are great! I liked that movie! Just watched it the other day with my son! Very fun pieces!
Thanks for the nice comments. You should watch Stargate, you will get hooked! LOL. The bus is a 60s bus. Is supposed to be psychedelic. They con back in time to 1969 ...
FromtheDeep hope to see one of your pieces!

Maria, that one looks really good. Is it oil? Full of exploration spirit back then, those characters. Could easily be the book cover.
This one was supposed to be scissorshand - a character Johnny Depp played.
Pentel Calligraphy Pocket Brushpen
Prismacolor Verithin pencil to color a bit
It's challenging to do portraits free hand as usual. So he looks younger in my drawing.
Stillman & Birn Alpha sketchbook 8.5 x 5.5 inch sketchbook half page

Re: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge APRIL - Scien Fiction Movies & TV Shows!
Thank you, Maria.
This is some sort of creature from a Korean Sci-Fi movie The Host.
I improvised here and there. It was on a page of color swatch tests and I used Holbein gouache bronze to cover most of the swatches.
The rest is Daniel Smith watercolor and colored pencils.
I have to say only Stillman & Birn Alpha is the only book I could put colored pencil work when the paint is not 100% bone dry. I'm so bad in patience. If it were any other, it would have tore already with how energetic I was with the exciting monster.
5.5 x 8.5 inch hardbound the last of the page where I usually test colors.
Btw, I have watched the Rise of the Planet of the Apes this weekend. It is fantastic!!! It is so exciting and so entertaining. Love every expression of Caesar!!

Wow very interesting. What is the movie about? Just curious.
I really like the different effects of the media. Your drawing has a lot of depth! I have been doing that a lot lately. Experimenting and mixing stuff. So far mu favorite mix is makers and colored pencils...
