Marcia, how do you like that zenfolio web site as a hosting site for an artist web site?

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
Paul, Well, I am not the webmaster, just a humble gallery member, but I noticed it was a zenfolio site. The guy who is building it, is a photographer (and gallery member), not a computer nerd or web lackey, and I think this is his first foray into doing a flashy website. He says, "This is a start, as I learn to more customization, I will continue to improve the site." So for a novice, he's done a smashing job!
My own site is just one I put together with iWeb, which I can't seem to be bothered to even update, let alone fancy it up.
Those samples look like fun. I think the pearlescent pigments would be good on some types of flowers and vases and things in paintings. Maybe even the finish on some guitars in a painting, just not gold flake.

Enjoy the paint, Paul...
Marcia, you should be very proud of your own website too...amazing that you built it yourself!!

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
Marcia, I liked your website even before you gave it a new appearance! Your gallery website is fine, too, but I kept wanting to see all three of your paintings and he just showed two. Maybe suggest that each artist get a bit more individual attention, with name tag, in his next update?
Paul, I have a friend who when she paints, mixes enough white into some colors that it looks pearlescent. If the six samples don't give you the color you want, you might do that!

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
I been painting ballerina's lately and someone suggested they have a Gustav Klimt look.... ( I think it is the muted earth tone background colors )
So I thought that maybe I should add some gold to the background .. We'll see what it looks like. It might be fun.
Thanks for the info Nancy and Marcia.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
Isn't that neat, Sandra, to get inspiration from just talking about things?!!
My mother called us kids "swamp angels" and nobody seems to know what she meant by it... I'll see if Google knows...
My word! Since the last time I mentioned the name online, there are now a plethora of definitions, including businesses, who have taken the name.
Many years ago, tho, you couldn't find anything but the reference to a powerful cannon by that name, used during the US Civil War. My mother must've taken her meaning with her to the grave -- she didn't talk all that, so quite a lot of knowledge is lost.
I do think if Wet canvas is deleting the ( <picture this smiley with a halo) Angel smiley, they should lose the Devil face, too. Just to keep things equal ...

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
yES Nance I agree about getting rid of the devil .... its only right ....and what a funny nick name your mother had for you all .. i bet it was a sweet undertone to it ...
yeah I do find sometimes things come to me in the oddest moments of my Life ... I will create a brilliant painting Of Nell ... you know how it is , I seem to find those first moments even days of a blank canvas the most terrifying till I let myself believe I can do this .... its a strange and disconcerting thing being an artist

Sandra, I will try and take some pictures outside this weekend. We're mostly likely getting rain, and I have an art fair on Sunday.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, April 2012
Since I may have only seen one Klimt in my life, and that is hazy - perhaps it was a print - I wanted to double check something before giving my opinion. Since Paul mentioned Klimt, my thought was that the only way to get that effect was to use gold leaf, and I found this article on one of his paintings:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kiss_(Klimt)
and this one:
http://www.arthistoryarchive.com/art...tav-Klimt.html
Quote:
|
" Many of Klimt's paintings from this period utilized gold leaf (his use of gold can first be traced back to Pallas Athene in 1898 and Judith I in 1901) and the works most popularly associated with this period are the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I in 1907 and The Kiss 1907-08 (widely considered to be the greatest painting ever, better than even the Mona Lisa)."
|
I have yet to see gold paint that looks as good a gold leaf. I have no idea how it would be applied to a painting though.
We took a trip to Home Depot today to pick up poultry fencing and some more plants. There is an orchid nursery just a few miles from my house, which I hadn't visited in years, and bf has never been to. He's a plant lover so we stopped for a quick tour. I must go over there with my camera some day. Their website isn't very good, but here it is anyway:
http://www.gublers.com//Pages/Home.html
HD finally had some rose moss, so we (okay he) can fill the planter and we also picked up some herbs.
