@tuscanni:
Oh, sorry - forgot about that. This is acrylic on canvas, 30 x 20 cm. Small palette knife for the water, medium fan for the trash on the sand and two flats (big and medium) for everything else. For colors - burnt sienna, phtalo green, titanium white, indian yellow, deep purple and a little blue.

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Hi Meggs, thank you for hosting.
I started out with your river scene and kind of let it evolve. I decided to elevate the viewer so he could look down on the scene. Once I got to the point in the painting that I was going to add the tree limbs into the sky, I decided I liked the scene as it was and thought the addition of leafy limbs would be a distraction.
So here is my adaptation of the scene. Yes I really did start out using the reference photo and just allowed the painting to evolve.
It's an oil pastel on gessoed masonite 8 by 10 inch panel. Oil pastels: Gray Pas and Senneliers.
Suggestions for improvement welcome.

Had to crop the waterfalls. They were quite the daunting task. Did the best I could. S Pitt pen and ink wash. Cindy

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Sorry to be late checking in - and apologies for not commenting fully on all - but I have looked and am impressed with output, quality and results!
Frujin - that sun and misty feeling is delightful - I know your feelings about the boats, they could take over!
Vlad - beautiful knife-work - I've been trying (again) with knives but cannot get effect and quality you have! Lovely!
Likewise with OPs Hal - if I could get this effect I'd use them more.
The pen/wash is a piece after my own heart Cem - one of my comfort areas
Meryl - you know how I watch your paintings - you're doing well and I love the water/reflection effects you achieved.
Ward - I really like your painterly style.
Trier - your output is prodigious! Well done!
I have a suggestion about your paper if you'd like to try it.
I use a piece of perspex - it's about A3 size - and I soak the paper (both sides) and lie it flat - it clings to the perspex and doesn't need taping.
Mostly, I paint on a wet or damp surface with acrylics or w/colour, and the paper seldom buckles.
Here's my contribution Meryl - about 6x9.5", acrylic inks on w/c paper and took less than an hour not counting drying time between layers.
I increased the saturation level so I could convey my idea of hot, tropical Queensland!
Fingal Headland - and if that's the 'island' bit, I'm sorry I've made it too prominent!

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Meggs - do you have high resolution references of any of these? I'm particularly interested in the waterfalls and rocks from Jan 20 2010.
Thanks
Rob

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Maureen - Thank you very much for the tip about the paper, I tried it today, but without success. It might be due to the different materials we use. You use an A3 size piece of paper, and I am using an 18x24 ;piece which I think is larger than an A3. My paper is only 50#, while I am sure you must be using a heavier one and of artist quality, whereas mine is only plain brown kraft paper and came somewhat wrinkled and buckled to begin with. I may be in the game of trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but I bought a thousand sheets and will find some way to get better results.
Vlad- You are going great.
Ward, Hal, Cem, Frugin, Meggs - Everybody is looking good!
Meggs Falls 24x18 acrylic/gessoed kraft paper

lot of glare from the wrinkles

Trier
