Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Thank you Antonin and Trier.
Trier, nice crops and good execution
I have another one done with knives, oil on 8x10" canvas panel, wanted to see how I could handle knives on a smaller format
C&c are very appreciated,
Thank you

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Awwwwww Trier, dont disappoint me... I thoroughly enjoy your "smart ass" attitude... keep practising and you might even make it to Ozzie status.. As to your wrinkles, have your tried ironing them... I do it all the time with my canvas pad leafs before and after painting. As to your paintings, the headland comp I thought a inspired concept..the movement in the ocean and escarpment of the headland is fantastic. The Creek, I cant make up my mind which version I like the most... Your Abstract... well I cant comment Im afraid, as I simply am blind to abstract, my brain dont fathom it but I applaud your time and effort.
Vlad, I didnt realise your first post was with knife, I has admiring your texturising though, so now I understand where the texture came from. The "Fingal Head' you posted is amazing, the colour movement and texture make it to me eyestopping. I have to say I admire your knife work. Its something I dont know a lot about or have seen much of, but I like your technique more than others I have seen. I also think you did a damn good job on those 'Pandanus Palms" they are buggers to paint.
Keep em coming guys, I hope to get one completed over the "Easter Break"

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Meggs, what absolutely awesome pics! You are so lucky to awake to such beauty everyday! Looking forward to try my hand at some, maybe this week-end? Vlad, I love your knifework, your paintings are vibrant with movement, well done! You paint like I want to! Triers, I adore your use of colour, bold and confident! Looking forward to see some more, also of Maureen's artwork and Meggs, I like your painting, it's so fresh!
Happy painting everyone,
Charri

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
I tried a coastal shot. It is hurried but I wanted to get one under my belt. Please, C&C is more than welcome. My most respected critic has already commented on the dull looking water (which I agree with). I will have to give another water shot a try. These pictures are awsome Meggs.

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
I knocked out another "quick" one instead of scaping the pallet clean. It's crude but I liked drawing this with a very small brush and scrubing the color
in. C&C welcome. I failed to mention that this sketch and the previous one are oil on medium canvas.

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Ward I think both of these are excellent, not sure what is meant by dull sea, was it colours or movement... To me it looks authentic for a sheltered bay. Your second one, lots of implied movement there. Good going

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Thought I had better put up my own thread. I just completed this and I have to say pretty half hearted about it so forgive pls. I have also added another scene in the references that I have done before in late 2010. I was pretty chuffed with this one at the time.

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Hi Guys,
I tried this one. I am scared to place boats and foreground tree for two reasons - 1) I fear I would ruin it and 2) .. I am not sure it won't kill the feeling. But who knows - I am noobie anyway - so advice please!

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Frujin, The painting is great. I really like the water effect (very impressionistic). It is a very nice piece.
Meggs, Both of your works are warm and tranquil.....I like them both (especially the second one. Great work on the trees!).

Re: April Landscape Challenge 2012
Frujin, I think this painting is beautiful and the atmosphere of it. I know what you mean about getting to a point your frightened to add anything, I get there myself often...
Remember its YOUR painting... references are there to only give you a direction... how you use them is up to you. We are not out to paint a replica of the photo, there is photo realism for that (another forum)
There is a whole market for this type of painting, I call it minimalistic, cos I dont know what term is used. However its the type of painting that in Australia you see adorning walls of corporate buildings and modern homes. Congratulations... I would love to see this in real
