The Oil Gusher April 2012

Good Morning! It's a new year and time to start over on the Gusher. So come in and share your joys, concerns...or just the day to day routine and lets get acquainted.

Let's all have a great month.
Good morning Pat.

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

Hi Shirl!

I'm up early because I went to bed early last night, got up at four in the morning of all things. Pretty weird for me but that's what happens when I do a lot of running around. Today starts my Daily Painting challenge and my Daily Painting blog too.

Wow, April 1 already and the sun is shining, though we had a slight frost last night. It hasn't hurt the flowering shrubs and bulbs that have come out though.
Give us a link to your challenge, Robert.

Good morning Shirl....

Good morning Pat.

D*mn... that year went fast... in the blink of an eye.

Oh!!!! It's April Fool's day.

Robert when are you going to change your avatar to reflect the new you???

Good morning Pat. There was a bit of frost on the cars this morning and we've had a couple pretty cold mornings after that warm spell and I'm afraid our crocuses have bitten the bullet but the Daffys seem to be holding on.

Sure! As soon as I do today's painting I'll post a link. I might do it in oil pastels, since I got out my Senneliers yesterday.

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

Hey all
Steve - I posted to you re your photos on March thread as it was pertinent..... pleasde check

by the way yhu can feel free to draw from the pics I posted too if they grab you.

WELL I AM A VERY PROUD MUM!!!!!!

As I mentioned my son was in a spoof of MacBeth last night as part of the Warwickshire Arts Festival. It wasn;t the lead but it was the part he wanted and felt he could do justcie too. it was MacBeth as recounted in the old gumshoe 30s detective filme noir style. the lead actor in the Gumshoe role was nominated as best actor - but didn't get it. BUT the play won aand is now going through to represent the county at the next round in the All-England one-Act Play Festival. BUT nobody was more surprised than HE was when he received the ADJUDICATOR'S SPECIAL AWARD for his performance by a non-lead character. This is an award presented at the discretion of the adjudicator for something that doesn't have a category but has impressed him. Actually Andy won it before when he was directore and promotor of a play by his own company 'One Shot' Theatre. he entered as an independent one year because he didn't fancy any of gthe roles in his theatre group's plays so he set up his own and chose their own play and put it together in 6 weeks. This so impressed the adjudicator that - even though it didn't win - he deemed it worthy of recognistion. He also won it for best actor when he played lead in a play in the junior section years ago - because until next year they dont' have awards for juniors.

As for me - well after this extremely busy week - and another to come I am forced to rest today.

I was feeling so rough last night I had to shoot off home and couldn't stay and have a drink with them all. Today I woke up early enough but wsas just too rugh to get out of bed until gone 1pm and I've done very little since. I have loads of admin to do before a marathon of one show and record the one for when we are away. Weds we have the laundry run and Thurs we are off to Leeds for Easter with my brother and not back until Weds the week after.

Might manage a little CP art today - and print off the refs for the month - not up to much to be honest - feeling phased and lacking in concentration.

I still ahve 3 portraits of the nieces to do before August - eek.

I AM SO PROUD OF HIM!!

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

I second the congratulations Lin, ...strong in your clan the creative streak is (done in my best Yoda voice)
No problem with regards to the bird pics, the full res images are 5mb in size so too large for emailing, but I have a Box.net account so I should be able to send you a link to the files so that you can download the full uncompressed images from the cloud. I will also be including my fave bird pic when i host the challenge in July so I will be expecting participation from you at the very least, especially as you were the one who borrowed Pats big stick and coerced me into signing up for a stint.

Here is another pic that is sure to appeal to those cat lovers among us , This lovely she-cat is named Nobel and belongs to my friend, I love this photo that he captured, she looks like a pill bug, armadillo or hedgehog in training with only her ear breaking the symetry.

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

Lin, let me echo the congrats.

Steve the cat is wonderful. It must have been a very cold day!!!

Crisis!!! Crisis!!! Crisis!!!

Last evening when I took my my camera off a shelf in my livingroom bookcase, the wrist strap snagged bowl partially filled with decorative sand and a candle. Camera landed on the floor, lens up and the sand dumped all over the camera. Now the lens will only partially open and the camera says "lens error." No amount of brushing, blowing, or prying has helped.

My printer is down and now my camera.

Gus is limping and seems to have a growth on one of his toes. I have a call in to the Vet, who hasn't responded as yet. (Vet called back as I was writing this: 3:40 this afternoon for Gus.)

A little later this morning it will be off to Staples for the printer and camera.

OH THE WIND AND THE RAIN!!!!!

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

I can't take credit for that photo of Nobel Pat, her owner took that one. I just stole it
Lin I have sent you a PM with the links to the full size robin and chaffinch photos - I've sent you the camera generated jpegs which are about 5mb, I also have the RAW files in the Canon CR2 format but these are between 15 and 20mb each and you'd need photoshop with the RAW plugin to open them for editing, so I assumed the jpegs would suffice.

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

Hal ..... sounds like you're in for an expensive few days, printer, Camera and vet bills....my credit card is wincing at the thought. Cy had to have antibiotics and vet treatment last month and it was alarmingly expensive, I need to get him re-insured. I let his last insurance policy lapse as the company hiked up the renewal to almost double the previous year's amount because he is now almost 6 years old....I was fuming, Insurance companies are like casinos they're happy to take your money while the going is good but don't like paying out when it's their turn and always stack the cards in their favour....gggrrrrrrr

Re: The Oil Gusher April 2012

Hey all -

Steve thank you SO very much for the pics - I now have them all saved in my 'Things to paint' folder.

Been so busy - after my 'down' day yesterday. I've spent all day catching up on raido station admin andI'm now ahead of myself a little. I have prepped for the show tomorrow including the one we have to stay late to record for the followinf Tuesday when I'm in Leeds. that will include the interviews with the curators. etc.

The next round of my sons play competition is in Stoke on Trent at the Mitchell Theatre so maybe Steve could pop in and watch the play? It's a MacBeth spoof with a very slezy Lady MacBeth a totally bonkers King MacBeth and a camp man in a kilt who has employed a sleazy gumshoe. it has the longest play title in the competition lol.

Will be at the studio most of tomorrow but all I have to do Weds is fetch the laundry.

Going to check forums then do some work on a bird I started for the WDE over the weekend.
