Transferring image unto second plate

I have a question regarding multi plate intaglio.

I have etched one plate and now I need to transfer the image onto my second plate. How can that be done? Should I print my first plate and then pass my second plate under the press, so that whatever ink is on the paper transfers itself? Or is there an easier way?

Print the first plate on to paper and make sure you catch the edge of the paper under the roller after it passes through. I then use two weights to make sure registration is perfect. Make sure the plate does not move and place one weight hard against the top edge and the other one against the side side edge. Carefully remove the plate leaving the weights in position. Remove the plate and then put your second plate in its place amking sure it is the right way up! Remove the weights and let the paper fall back down. Run through the press and you will have your image transferred to the second plate.

I dont think there is an easier way, but I'll add to Red Dot's method - the ink will dry really slow on the metal so if you, like me, cant wait, just dip the plate with wet ink and all (oil based ink) into your etching medium (acid, ferric, etc) for 2 or 3 seconds. This will fix the image as a dull negative, which still prints white as the metal is not etched just stained. Your positive image of plate 1 will be shiny and clearly visible. You may want to test this on a scrap piece first but I've had no problems with this method. I haven't tried it with a water based/soluble ink yet but as the etchant dip is so quick it may work too.
